Hickory Creek Koolaid

I’d like to thank you personally, I’ve had my Hickory for 3 years and was tuning a new arrow build yesterday and this same thing happened to mine. Watched the video and an easy fix. Saved me time trying to figure out what was going on. Easy fix in a few minutes and I was shooting again.
Matt
Unfortunately, this was not the fix for mine. Even holding the anti-dryfire down/away from the release hook still some kind of binding up in the trigger system. I called Jerry and he quickly offered to just send me out a new one. Very pleased with the customer service!

Sorry to hear that. Jerry’s a good dude

When I first got mine, I struggled to get a good consistent group. I tightened everything up and adjusted the arrow rest, then my groups closed up and I was satisfied.

I noticed at the end of last year, and so far shooting it this year, my groups are starting to open up again. Has this happened to anybody? If so, any recommendations other than recheck all the screws?

Check your nock loop. Some have loosened up over time and it will pinch the nock causing erratic flight shot to shot Simple fix if that is your case

PSA:

Shoot a compound bow, and you hit left. You move your pin left.

Shoot a mini with a red dot scope, and you hit left. You move your dot “right”.

Don’t do what I did, and make an adjustment to rest to tune, which moved POI well left, and then crank windage a bunch “left”, and then think “I need to fire broadhead first before field point” and then do that.

I found a rock. My broadhead and arrow did not like it.

In other news, broadhead hits with fletched at 40, shot a 3 shot group with field points after that on one knee from 40, all 3 arrows touching. The mini is an easy button.

I noticed a chunk of one of my green string silencers came off. (The part circled in red)

Anybody think that's enough to throw an arrow off a couple inches?

How did your silencer get next to your cam?
That's not my photo, it's from the Internet. I was just using it for reference.

I am wondering if it's possible that the difference in weight/balance could be an issue.

I'd doubt it because there's "Monkey Tail" style string silencers that are lop sided and they don't seem to effect point of aim.
I took both of those green string silencers off due to scope clearance and don't notice much of a difference in vibration or sound.
I shot my HC a couple weeks ago and it was shooting tight groups 6" right after sitting all year in the case.
I'm convinced they just wander over time (limbs settle, strings stretch). Once dialed back to center, it seems to be holding zero.
I know guys used to back off the limb bolts in the off season on compounds, it could be something to try on these HC minis too.

Brings up a good point. I may see if one of the custom string makers will draw up plans for HC Mini strings. With good components that won’t stretch. No idea what Jerry uses. We could make this a known commodity.

I guess I just never thought about it, thru the fifty or so years I've been bowhunting I've collected some arrows. I have a lot that I can cut down and reuse. I think my arrows are too heavy for whitetail so next year I want to lighten it up so I can hold the same out to thirty yards.

Shot the Mini yesterday for the first time this year, three clicks on windage and looks good at 30. It went to woods with me, gotta say the idea of not climbing a tree and parking on the ground somewhere with the Mini is a temptation that I sometimes can’t resist, especially if crunched for time.

Are you still shooting pretty heavy arrows? How much drop do you have from shooting at 20 to 40?

They’re around 500gr I believe. Maybe 475, I think the arrows I’m into now are lower gpi.

I’m zero’d at 30. 5-35 I aim and shoot. 40 is about 8” low.

I took out the mini the other day to practice a little. I decided to shoot at thirty yards and then put on my Cutthroats. All I can say is holy sh3t! Is it possible that they fly better than field points? They even sound better LOL

What offset quiver adapter is everyone using? My son is using our Mini and dislikes having to take the quiver off to pull the string back.

Oooh I’m going to give this a try as well, I do see it available from other sellers.
Also, if you are looking for an awesome quiver for the HC, the Alpine Archery Soft Loc is fantastic. There is a 3 arrow version, that is compact, and the way it mounts, you can slide it up and down so your fletching doesn't stick out at all. You still need the adjust quiver bracket to mount it, but with the sliding mount, you can slide the quiver down and when you need to cock the bow, just slide it up.

Just a PSA on the mini (not sure if a similar story has been told here)...

I managed to derail mine when disarming it after a morning hunt. No problem, really. Backed the limb bolts out, fixed, and still hitting the mark at 20/30 yards.

Fast forward a week later. Went out for an evening hunt and noticed at prime time (of course) one of the bottom limbs was splittered.

I was able to get epoxy, tape, and clamps on it for 48 hours and it's no longer splittering when left armed.

Luckily, silly archery season is over here in GA, but needless to say, I'll be calling Jerry about some new limbs this spring.

So, keep a very close eye on those limbs if you happen to derail your mini!
