In the September issue of Deer & Deer Hunting I have the feature kill related article on bow hunting during midday and it's titled "High Noon Whitetails and in my biased opinion, if you're hunting in a pressured area, you might want to check it out. Of my 31 Michigan book bucks, 20 were taken between Nov. 1 and 14 and of them 7 were taken between 11 am and 3 pm. That's about a 35% kill rate on midday hunts while less than 8% of my time spent in the saddle during that time frame was from 11 to 3. The article explains the scenarios for midday hunting.

Great information. Thanks. I can sleep late. I bought your hunting pressured whitetails video set a couple weeks ago.

Good point BJ, that is an advantage, in a few midday locations types you can sleep in.

The state park I hunt in has a sign at the parking area that they open at 8AM. I am not sure if hunting time regs override this but I didn't get there until then anyway. I saw enough deer midday but no bucks. I only saw one other hunter but plenty of empty tree stands.

Forgot to add the pics of the 10 point from Michigan that I used a camera on and the 9 point from Kansas that was never on the camera even though he frequented the location.

I was invited to a Commemorative Bucks Of Michigan awards banquet a few years ago. I went just to see what it was all about. As I walked about looking at all of the others entries in the record books there was a note card with each entries display that noted the date taken, the county taken and the time taken. I noticed a disproportionate amount of bucks were taken between 10 am and 2 pm.

I liked your article in the August issue of D&DH on speed scouting which is sound advice as well. I agree with your assessments with mid-day whitetails especially during the rut. My 2004 P&Y 9 Pointer in the 130's came through around 1pm bisecting known doe trails. The stand was near a terrain funnel (ridge spur) that pushed deer along a ridgeline that ran east-west. The doe trails ran north-south. This buck was heading southerly on a southwest wind. I shot him at 16 yards and he went about 25 yards and collapsed on a bench just below the main ridgeline. This deer was an old buck but wasn't blessed with a lot of points. He had considerable mass and palmation however. He dressed 194lbs. Getting him up out of that bench was killer but all worth it. We get a lot of pressure here in NY and your advice is excellent. I have your books and videos as well and believe they have contributed to some of my success. I have had several other opportunities during bow season at mid day bucks or have captured the increased activity on trail cameras. I also believe the traveling type bucks use these time periods considerably. Don't laugh at my picture.... that was 16 years ago!!!

Thanks for the heads up Sir. That’s one of the few mags that I don’t have a subscription for so I will keep an eye out for it.

I’m digging the YouTube content, Good stuff!

I’d love to see a breakdown of how you select your best presets. From mapping to boots on the ground or however you think through the process of analyzing and breaking down a piece of high pressured ground down to a single tree.

As I write this post it occurs to me the that it’s been too long since I have reread Precision Whitetails.

That is an awesome mature buck and great story.

From Patriot: that will be done in a post season scouting video or 2.

Ricky: the more pressured the area, the more midday movements and that is why so many in Michigan.
