Hiking Boots

I don’t mean to derail this thread, but GOOD GLORY is that a tanker of a buck in your profile pick! :fearscream: Whereabouts (generally) did you hunt him down??
Thanks! Free permission farm in west KY. He was just short of being my personal best by 3”.

But where are your Meindls?
Worst boots I've ever owned. They were a Cabela's exclusive. Think they were called Ultimate perfekt hunters. The rand separated in under a year, they leaked like a hose, and my heels were put through a grinder with them. There's so many positive reviews however, Im thinking my experience was just a fluke and isn't the norm

Another vote for the Salomon 4d gtx, they’ve been my go to for 2 1/2 years now a lot of miles no leaks to speak of & holding up well. Good amount of support for saddle…… @Zero One Actual im a 14-15 as well sometimes you just get what fits…
Any downsides to them? I have them In my cart and figure I can get boot blankets for warmth on stand

I was thinking about buying another pair, just n case they changed something. As long as they fit you well …… they get my vote. I haven’t tried a bunch of the others mentioned due to not being available in my size. So factor that in as well, I probably would’ve expanded my search if I had more offerings.

Lowa Renegades are hard to beat.
I’m also putting the miles on my Hoka Stinson GTX boots this off season.
So far they’ve been awesome. I’ve had them out in 10” of snow and also on 95 degree days and no complaints so far. Super soft and comfy just like the Hoka running shoes. The most miles I’ve put on em in a day is 14 and my feet felt great at the end of the day.
I use Hokas for my running, work(dentist) and also for hunting now. So I may be a little biased lol
Lowa looks good kind what I’m after. Waterproofing been good?

Yea so far. I’ve worn em for two seasons now and also for scouting and summer prep. Pretty worn but still waterproof
I did take the insoles out and put some better ones in. That made a big difference. Comfort wise at the end of the day there’s a noticeable difference between the Hokas and Lowa tho.

Makes sense. Cabela’s and them had a deal and I “heard” they starting going cheap with them kind of turning them into their Redhead line price point wise. Meindl pulled out and now their top models are all made in Germany again with a few made in South east Asia also. Maybe Vietnam.

Under Armor has some new ones I've seen. They have one that's around $190, and another "CH" model (not sure what CH means" that's like $300. They both looked interested.

To expound on my earlier post. These boots have great arch support, good grip, keep my feet warm, and feel great standing on a platform all day. I wear them camping, hiking, and hunting the big forest woods. If you are brush busting I would recommend gaiters though since they are a mid cuff boot. I have recorded 30+ miles at least on these boots in 4 years and they are still in wonderful shape. If Obos offered them in a safety toe they would be the only boot I wear. These may be frowned upon since they are leather though. I was going to buy the insulated versions of these boots but found last season that since I don't sweat near as much hiking in with these compared to rubber boots that I do well in them with a good pair of socks down to 20 deg days. I am in Alabama though so I don't have to fool with snow or super low temps.

I am sure there are plenty of other great boots out there, these are just the first that I have had really good results with.
