Has anyone tried welding sticks/ladders ever. Ive made a quite a few out of 20in 1/2in rebar welded together and painted to prevent rust. Just seeing if anyone else has tried before.
Thanks

The bow club I grew up hunting in was making stackable ladders at least as early as 1972. 5 foot sections that stacked and used small chain and small turn buckles to attach to the tree. Conduit and some small steel rod for steps and standoff's. Heavy and made all sorts of racket get to and up the tree but awesome for pre-sets. Actually still have some that we use occasionally on my buddy's farm.

Dad made screw in tree seats to use on boom down stands out of ez fold screw in steps. Not a full blown seat, more like having half a bar stool to lean on for long hangs. Worked good.

I made all my sticks and platforms....but not out of rebar.

I see a bunch of 8-10 foot conduit lean up ladders out on public land around here. Lots of woods leaner too....

Cut up an old steel hang on and use the seat portion as my platform. Wrapped the outer ring in paracord and ratchet strap to tree. Been going strong for a few years now

The earlier posts in the DIY form have a lot of these projects. When the forum started the industry didn't offer nearly as many commercial options as we have today, and it's kinda neat to go back and see what later evolved into, or influenced, things we can by today.

Rebar seems a bit heavy to me, but would probably work just fine for presets. I'd probably personally want some tougher steel - there have been a lot of comparisons between Grade 8 bolts and rebar in the bolt-climbing discussions - but you do you.
