How high can you get?

I'm sure this has been asked multiple times, but how high can you get with eith 3 hawk helium and no aider?

I'll be using this method for the first time for climbing and I want to do it without aiders until I'm super comfortable with the sticks alone.

I'm 5'8" for a reference if anyone else out there is my heighth and uses only 3 sticks.

Thanks in advance.

It depends on how high you space apart your sticks, but somewhere between 12 and 14 feet. For an extra couple feet, ive seen where guys will lean one of their sticks against the trunk of the tree, and step up to attach the first stick on the tree. You just have to make sure the stick you are leaning on is attached to you somehow so that you can pull it up and use it on the tree.

3 unmodded sticks, no aiders, under 6ft tall, 14ft

I would say around 12-14 feet without getting creative. Honestly a single step aider on a stick is simple and imo safer than trying to stretch them out without an aider.

I cant say for sure because I modded mine from the first day i got them. I think 12-14 would be reasonable. However, why not mod them? It cost nothing and even without aiders you are only giving up a couple feet. But with a CAYG aider you can easily hit 20 foot and a single foot aider is not that hard to use or use safely.

Because I have a fear of ladders. It took awhile for me to be comfortable with a ladder on a ladderstand. So I figure I'll do just climbing sticks for awhile then I'll switch to modding and aiders when I feel more comfortable

I think that's what I'll do is just get a 4th stick!

I think it's the way to go if you dont like aiders. All four sticks weigh 12.5 lbs. I set my first stick and lay my second on top of my first stick, then just hang one stick off each side of my saddle.

I'm not like a lot of these other guys that are so concerned with shaving weight. One or two more pounds is one more or two more pounds. If it means I'm dragging 200 lbs out of the woods I'm ok with it!!

Right now I'm thinking about doing that or setting only two sticks and using squirrel steps the remainder of the way up. How difficult is it to manage the sticks hanging off your belt on the way up? Noise would be my primary concern. Especially with a Doyle's hoist and mole bags already on my sides and a predator on my backside.

if you decide on at least 1 foot loop aider on bottom stick, you could wrap the foot loop in glow-in-the-dark tape. its what i did so i dont have any problems finding it in the dark. dont know if deer can see it, but its a non issue for me because i take the aider with me as i climb.

I've been thinking of doing 3 sticks and like 3 WE steps. That should get me another 4 feet or so in a stand....I'm so torn on how to do this

How about climbing while tethered (fall arrest) plus your lineman's? It will take more time, and be more rope to deal with, but it might help your fear of climbing.

Makes sense.

I dont have any issue with them hanging. I have a bag on each side and still have room for a stick on each side. I am changing to a platform this year instead of a ROS so I'll have fiddle with that to see how it all fits. I dont use a Doyle's hoist. I'm still old school with a pull up string. Way more light weight and compact. Once you learn the figure 8 method to wrap it up I have never had an issue with tangles.

Before I got fat I could get 20 ft with 3 lone wolf sticks. I just stepped against tree going up and eased myself down to the next stick on the way down. Now it takes me 4 to do the same thing but I sure like to eat.Lol
