How high do you hunt?

Video is done, uploading to Youtube as I type. I was quite surprised. I will post when its done, if you want to waste 10 minutes and 35 seconds of your life I suggest you watch. Its kind of boring its just a dude climbing a tree with free music playing in the background.
For years I would normally hunt up to 30’ with a climbing summit depending on the tree obviously. As I’ve gotten older I tend to be anywhere from 17-23’. I’m new to the saddle idea and haven’t even tried one yet, but I still believe that the 17-23’ range will be the sweet spots to all types of hunting for me. I’m still deciding on my climbing method for saddle hunting, but from what I can tell from all the videos and info on the subject, which ever one I decide on, I’ll be capable of those heights fairly easily.

Here it is. I stand corrected I really thought one sticking would be faster. The white paint line on the tree is 20ft high. I got about 22 ft high with each method. Now I want a set of those carbon sticks.

Shocked by the results! Great comparison video. Once I get more comfortable with 1-sticking I might have to copy this and race my WE steps. Also been researching SRT some lately. Hmm...

Great video! Nice to see the comparison for each method.
Nice to watch the video sped up. If you have time, can you, for each method, provide the real time to ascend and the real time to descend and pack up?
It looks like single step up take way longer, but the rappelling gains most of the lost time back.

Climbing speed is more important than descending speed and one can still rappel after climbing with multiple sticks. I don’t walk in as far anymore so weight isn’t a big deal. Bulk may be.

20-25. But like some other guys are saying, it depends. Last year I was around 25 feet but half-way down a ravine. I had a small doe come around behind me (the uphill side, which ended up being directly in line with me) she sniffed and spooked. It's all about the wind.

Clean up your one stick method and it will be close, but 4 sticks should always be faster for the same person.
I don’t one stick to save time going up the tree, I one stick to save weight and bulk walking in and walking out. But, with that being said, my platform is part of my one climbing stick so that does both saving me time and weight/bulk.
I like 16'. Early season cover it's hard to get higher. Late season and a good setup 16' is plenty high.
I find that 14-16 feet works for me. I like the shot angles better, and I like them real close.

Nice job on the comparison video @onestringer.
Looked to be about a two minute difference on the climb which is the only part that matters and for all intents and purposes is negligible. The bulk/weight savings of one sticking is what has always won my heart over every other climbing method. And at the end of a long day when It's time to pack up and come down in the darkness, rappelling IMO is much easier and more fun than walking down sticks.

I come in like the buck would into my setup and look over at the tree I plan on hunting and think about where I would best be hid. I don’t want to be above the cover like so many people are. You gotta think it through. Have a reason for everything.
