How high do you prefer to climb?

I prefer to stay on the ground when possible, but that only seems to work about 10% of the time for where I hunt. Second choice is just high enough for the background cover to hide my silhouette, however high that happens to be in the spot.

In previous seasons I prolly average 20+ feet during early season and 25+ feet during the later season - but that was with a climber.
This year, with the saddle, my philosophy is going to be 'hunt lower but with cover' ......Lower to me will prolly be an average of 18 feet or so but if I have enough cover I'm hunting lower than that.....

20-25 is where i like to be if the cover is right.Any higher with a bow makes for some crappy angles and you can wind up with a lot of single lunged deer.Plus with that being where i sit the most I judge judge yardage by eye the best there when things happen fast. With a rifle i usually sit higher to see more dirt.

Maybe it’s more of comfort (I have a fear of heights) but that 18’ ish to my feet height seems to be best so far. I’d like to start getting higher as I get more comfortable and as I get better with my climbing methods.

I’m in the 18-22 ft range normally. I hunt off the ground a lot too. It’s amazing what you can temporarily get away with when you sneak into an area where they aren’t expecting you. I tend to focus on finding these areas more than worrying about soaring with the eagles but if your milkweed tells you to go higher than go higher.

I like climbing as high as I can safely and comfortably get using 8 WE stepps, a knaider, and while carrying my backpack. With me adding the perch to my climbing system this year, I should be able to get to 24-26 feet safely. The addition of the perch allows me to climb with the stepps I would have been using as my “ring of stepps”.
