You gotta truly love trapping to do it these days. No money in fur and the time/money outlay into it is no joke. Do you break even?
I can guarantee i get more money back trapping, even discounting my paid work than ive done hunting anything.

Oh for sure, hunting is like lighting money on fire. I guess the difference for me is literally eating success but the amount of time you have into processing fur vs its returns now is crazy. All the fleshing, stretching, taking it to a buyer and then getting what $5? I honestly havent looked at fur prices in a few years, I dont have time to trap. If its still legal when I retire to do recreationally ill probably run a really small line, like 6 traps.

You can eat a lot of furbearers. I mainly save muskrat and beaver. If we ever get a bobcat season or I go out of state to trap them, ill eat those too

Only hunted for 3 seasons now and have averaged 51-53 sits per season and this has been very consistent. I don't have a spreadsheet like @boyne bowhunter but these are hard numbers as I keep a log of every hunt and document encounters etc. 90% of these sits are only 3-4 hour sits in the afternoon after work. I am only 15 min to local public so it works out well enough. We get 2 buck tags in Tennessee but we are allowed to kill 3 does per day throughout the whole season so I usually try to stack 8-10 deer in the freezer every year.
