How many times did you punch yourself

+1 on the Scott Pursuit. Really good thumb button release. I took the wrist strap off mine. Used it for awhile, but ended up picking up a Scott Apex, because I wanted something that felt a little more like my Scott Ascent hinge release i use on my target bow. I dont trust myself with a hinge for hunting.

The Apex is BUTTER. Love that release. Mine is pretty much a hair trigger, and I shoot it in a similar method to shooting a hinge, letting the button kind of roll into my thumb until it breaks clean. The Apex is super adjustable. If I had a single complaint, it's that the hook isn't a closed design, and it's iffy hanging it off the d loop while in the tree. I've already dropped it once. Scott did release the Apex Core this year, which has a closed loop. Thinking of trying one out just for the closed hook.

Haven't punched myself with it, but came close with the hinge.

Interested in hearing what thumb releases yall settled on if you shoot them. I have been considering saving up for a wise choice for a while. Still have my old index release and I shoot it ok but would like to try a thumb too. Couple of votes for the scott pursuit on here which is interesting and noted

The pursuit is nice but the Apex is a good step up if you can find one to try. I suggest trying a few at a local bow shop before settling on one. Keep in mind when trying them out that your peep will be off because your anchor point is a little different.

Many time. especially when I gave the Silverback a try, keep forgetting that you need to hold down the thumb trigger the whole way. Got so bad that wife tell me to let her know when I use it, so she can watch. This from someone who never has any interest in archery before.

I shoot the Tru Fire Synapse thumb and Tru Fire Sear hinge releases. They are the perfect size for my hand. They're designed so they feel exactly the same. I also like the added weight of the brass bodies. The Synapse has a closed hook and sits on my dloop while I'm in the tree. I did swith out the skinny thumb pin for a 5/8" thumb barrel on it. Oh, and after punching myself a couple times learning a hinge, I learned to draw about shoulder high, then bring my hand up to my anchor point...

I've shot a Carter Wisechoice for two seasons now. I actually didn't start with any issues off the hop switching to thumb button from an index finger release. Everything was great for a full year. The spring of last year, I started punching myself in the mouth and/or sending arrows to Jesus during the draw cycle. I had like 3 straight practice sessions where it happened while my thumb was physically behind the barrel and off the trigger.

I got frustrated and started looking over the release, and my tension was set so incredibly loose that the trigger was able to actuate under tension just by the weight of my thumb touching the barrel basically anywhere. After backing the screw all the way out and then resetting the tension, I've had no issues, and haven't sent any arrows into low earth orbit.

I have been using the Stans Onnex clicker and love it. Now it is my first thumb release so I have nothing to compare it to, so take it for what its worth. It has great adjustability and feels good in the hand.
