How much rope needed to rappel

I feel that 40 or 50 ft would be major overkill. What keeps a guy from running shorter 99.9% of the time and that once in a blue moon, repel down to end of rope, hang stick again. Drop your repel rope, reattach then run down rest way.
If you do that, make damn sure you have a stopper knot tied (never a bad idea).

Why not just carry 15 feet and then do what you say a few times. It would work.

This is probably the best reason to carry enough rope to reach the ground.

I understand why you like the rope but I don't feel it's necessary. My plan B is one stick down. I'll be honest I rarely hunt much higher than 20-22ft. So guess 30ish is plenty for my applications.

Pulling down ur rappel rope could/would be very difficult standing on a stick attached to the tree trunk.
I don't understand. With a linemans rope stabilizing you it should be easy and the stick will prevent it from falling to the ground.

10 feet of Oplux would pack mighty small.

I don't know about u but whenever I'm on the ground and there is brush in the surrounding area and I can't back up 10-15 foot away from the trunk I have a difficult time getting my rope down sometimes. If at all possible I stand back away from the trunk and loop the rope under my butt and sit down with my bodyweight pulling the rope and it simple. If I was on a stick leaned back with my linesman belt I would not be able to pull with enough force to break it free easily.....I don't even need to try because I already know it'll be hard....I challenge u to give it a shot next time u goofing around climbing trees

Yes. You are right. I remember now some trees are very difficult. I will still carry enough rope to reach the ground.

As long as you have enough to reach the ground in every potential scenario then you’re fine. And yes, ALL the way to the ground with a stopper knot (I’m just assuming if you’re rappelling you’re using a stopper).

My rappel rope is also my SRT rope. I can see using a much shorter rope for one sticking. I personally wouldn’t go less than 35’, every season I’m at 30’ at least a few sits. I don’t like hunting that high but 25 is basically standard in the mountains.
