HSS safety line as a tether/LR?

This is my first year using a saddle and I just converted an HSS safety line to my tether and lineman’s rope, did all the overhand knots and setup the ropeman 1 on each of em.

Did a test climb w it yesterday and it seemed to work just fine...only issue is putting all that faith into the HSS safety line.

Being that I’m very green to saddle hunting I’m having a hard time putting all my trust in that HSS rope and my life in the hands of that line.

Anyone else ever convert the HSS safety line into the tether/LR? How long did it take y’all to get over any apprehensions or rope trust issues?

I have done it, I actually called hss and asked them for a minimum breaking strength for their ropes, and much to my surprise no one at HSS could answer that. I finally spoke with an associate who said that the safe working load for their line is 400# and they rate the working load at 10% of breaking strength.

It will work just fine for you. i just switched from mine this year to the 9mm Sterling but am keeping it as a backup/spare tether or lineman’s belt. I’ve also used the Muddy Lifeline cut down.

What diameter is the HSS rope?

Thanks for the replies y’all...it’s all new to me so getting used to this from my ol trusty lone wolf climber is a big change.

Not sure the line diameter, looks like around 10mm...it’s whatever the HSS safety line is that they sell in 30’ lengths for folks using hang on stands.

Did y’all experience any period of “oh crap this little line has my life in its hands” apprehension?

You mentioned that you want to use the ropeman 1and if your HSS diameter rope is not 10mm diameter thickness or more the
ropeman is not suitable for the rope!

I've done 5 total climbs with my Hawk Hammock and the gear they provided. Looking for a spare or second tree setup at another property so I am grateful that you asked this question. I think I'll pursue that as a spare tether and maybe just upgrade the prusik...

Short answer to your question: yes

Every time I am up there, I'm in partial disbelief that I am suspended and mobile 360 degrees with the entirety of my trust is with 2 ropes and a carabiner :tearsofjoy: .

Thanks for asking the question and the feedback from other members.

I and many of us have used hss or muddy lifelines and have used ropeman 1 with them

The last several yrs I’ve used muddy 30’ line cut down to 9’ after knots along with a ropeman 1

My tether and LB are identical to each other so I can can alternate as I pass branches
