jusy want to know if I can use my tree strap from hss. ? what kind of rope do they use?

I use the short one from hss for attaching to my linemans belt for climbing and for setting stands, steps, etc....

I used one as my tether all season. Thinking about getting a second for a linesman rope. I'm also curious to hear other's thoughts on the HSS (vs. a climbing rated rope).

hss has to have a wrong rope for shock from a fall don't know the rope rating but it should work good for a tree strap-tether

I've been using it for years on my RCH. This was my first year using it as a tether for my saddle. No complaints.

I started with two, one for linemans and one for tether. Currently in the process of finding out what my "better" is. Experimenting with tubular webbing and some 8mm stuff.

But my old ropes are still going strong after 3 seasons.

I used it as my tether on 56 sits this year, works fine. Its not as highly rated as climbing ropes but it isnt going to snap if you take a fall either- that is what its made for.

I used the HSS rope with a ropeman 1 as a linesman and a tether this season. The ropes currently show no wear and never gave any reason to not have faith in their ability to perform as either the linesman or tether.

What do folks think of the metal crimp on the HSS rope? I like the idea but not sure if it fixes a legit problem.

I do like the idea, the crimp cuts down on weight and bulk. I mentioned in a earlier post that I hunted with these ropes all season but without any test data or experience on the crimped rope ends I still tied a stop knot. Until there is tested results on the crimp stopping a slipping Prussic/ropeman in a fall I will not risk not having the additional knot.

I use their lifelines and linesman ropes. Im definitely running a stopper knot. I just can't trust that crimp. If the prussic does get to the crimp, and you haven't already died of a heartastroke, that edge may be just enough to cut prussic IMO. Just by the looks and feel of it. I really don't know but don't want to find out either

I've been thinking about this too. I have a 10' Lifeline I usually use when hanging and hunting and a 30' I've used for treestand hunting. Thinking about mod'ing these for a tether and lineman's belt. Anyone ever used one as both the lineman's belt and tether? My idea is to strap into a webbing strap before transferring the lineman's belt to tether. I would double the daisy chained webbing as a gear strap once at hunting height and tethered in. This would eliminate the weight and cost of two ropes and ropeman's.

I was fixing to throw up a hss rope I previously used for a tether for sale in the classifieds. If any wants a backup or in need of one, pm me.

I called HSS and tried to get some specifics on their rope tether and they were not very forthcoming with information, all they said it was approved to handle a 300lbs man falling. it looks to be a 8mm or 9mm so anywhere from 1000 to 5500 test strength. but I currently use it for lb. but also bought some 11mm from REI for my tether.
