Oh
My
Gosh
I love this thing!! 8 miles in one hour on the WMA roads. This place was made for a bike, and I should have done this years ago.
45,000 acres of hardwood flood bottom. Gate is closed 90% of the time. If it floods they close it, and they don't open it unless the roads are dried out and repaired. Well, it floods at least once a year, and it takes a LONG time for it to dry up enough to implement repairs.
It was closed today, but the roads were completely passable on a bike. I'm estimating there's probably 30+ miles of road easily. It would take an 8 mile walk to get all the way back in. Not really feasible at walking speed. But in a bike...Just lift'er over the gate and go!
Once I get her tuned up, buy the essentials, and get comfortable with emergency repairs like
@Lacky mentioned, I'll probably start hitting it every weekend. I think I'll try to build up to 20 miles. I may have to rig a waybto haul my pungo, because there's several creeks and lakes back there that should be wood duck meccas. One in particular is a land locked lake, about 5 miles back. Ain't no local redneck getting back there when he can shoot at a couple ducks off the kayak launch.
This is going to basically be like having private access to thousands of acres of oak bottoms. Since there are entire seasons where the road is closed, I'm willing to bet there are bucks back there that have never seen a hunter.
I do need to figure out some details though. Will probably buy a bigger pack, since I'll most likely want to cram my saddle, regular gear, bow, and change of clothes on there. I don't think I'll want a bow rack or saddle bags. I also probably want better shoes than camo crocs to ride in.
Other than that I should be good. It rode very well, and I did not find the seat to be uncomfortable at all. It did make a little noise though, and it seemed like it hiccuped shifting a few times. Hopefully the tuneup will fix that.
Man, I'm ready for season to hit already!!
