Not sure if anyone has really compared the states with good public land resources but this seems to give a good comparison.

How much public land do you have to hunt in your state?

Very little in Indiana. One of the reasons I hunt private ground.

4.8% of Maine but most of it is in the north which is a couple hours drive for me. Also a lot more deer in the southern half of the state where I live.

This seems low to me, but it would take a while to do the math. Between the following
  • federal
  • state
  • leased land (via AGFC) program requiring pay-to-hunt permits
  • the planned communities allowing urban hunting
I believe our acreage is higher than what is accounted for.
