Hunting vs relaxing

Interesting. I've looked at boatswain chairs, but checking out the Podium I see Petzl harnesses that have upper back attachments. A harness could probably be put together to facilitate climbing as well as saddle hunting using your method with a podium or such seat, which could double as a treestand fall arrest harness when using a micro stand like the LWCG .5.
The very first saddle I made started its life as a boatswain chair and it has been one of my favorite saddles to date I still use it!!!

Yeah I figure rope access guys spend a whole lot more time in an elevated seated position than us saddle hunters will and I will say that I sometimes bring a pee bottle and a sandwich for the occasional dawn until dusk hunt. No I am not recycling my urine!LOL!

You have to be uncomfortable on pressured public to find constant success imo. And not just in the tree. Whether that means wading through a swamp or going through a briar thicket full of thorns. You have to do things others won't. Yesterday for the PA opener I got in the woods by 3am. Needed to, because I had to go through several hundred yards of 10ft tall clearcut to get to my spot. It was a nightmare. Spiders, tripping over cut trees, uneven ground, thorns, wet dew vegetation, sticks getting caught on everything, it goes on and on. In the middle of the cut is a small oak island perhaps 50 yards across. Made it there by 5 15. At very first light a beautiful PA 8pter walked by at 5 yards. Let him pass as I knew there were a few bigger ones. But it made the nightmare and work to get there worth it. When I left, I ran into two other hunters on the way out who didn't see a single thing all day. And both complained there just aren't many deer anymore. How little they know..

I am fortunate to hunt out my little 40 acres but this too has its limitations. While I don't have to trek as far as public land hunters I do have to contend with deer pressured by neighboring properties . My one neighbor has a square (640 acres) and deer movement across my property is largely dictated by their actions. I have a core population of does that get bred yearly and tend to draw out some nice bucks when the rut starts. Other properties on my road range from 20 acres to upward of 5000 acres and then the state woods begin. I rifle hunted on public land many years ago and it was an orange nightmare. I hunted bear public land in the U.P. for 10 years and it was a very nice experience. I will pray for you adventurous fellows that are much more hard core than me for safety and success,.

I had a horrible sit, and it was the sit I saw a buck briefly. Unfortunately, it was also why I had turned around and stood on my platform for awhile, so I can see how comfort or lack of it screwed me, but also put me in the right place. His appearance was so brief I lost the few second window I had to take a shoot, as I drew back, he was gone. It was also an all day sit, so there's that too. I will exhaust more effort for comfort depending on time of sit.
