Hunting with Spurs on...?

Took the spurs out again tonight. I don't think I did anything differently, but the climbright aluminum pads did just fine. Last time they hurt really badly.

I was tied in at 28 feet in 4.5 minutes. Can't beat it!

I took mine out saturday morning for the first time in a while too. Despite my little dip in the stream, my spur system worked great. The only thing that I have done differently than most is I put cam buckles on the bottom. They allow me to tighten it up so much better and for it to hold that I'm adding them to the top too.

That's on my to do list. I don't like threading the strap every time. I'm going to fabricate some sort of quick release system.

So a one inch strap - like a lone wolf strap and a cam buckle . Just wondering if a one inch wide strap would be uncomfortable higher up.

I've been just stepping into them so I don't have to thread the strap. Gotta work this out a little better but I'll figure it out because I do prefer the cam buckles. I had one of my quick release buckles come loose 20 foot up and it was not fun.

I've been using 1 inch straps since I started using the spurs. Just switching from quick release buckles to cam buckles (ones much smaller than on the lone wolf straps). It works fine and I'm wearing the spurs for such a short time that long term comfort isn't necessary.

What cam buckle? Link?

I'm going to rig up some kind of quick disconnect. I hate the threading.

Also, last night I spurred down instead of rappelling. It wasn't nearly as bad as when I first started learning. I think I'll probably ditch the rap gear and stick to spurring down. It simplifies things a bit. Putting the spurs back on was fairly easy. With the exception being threading the bottom strap through the buckle. That was annoying.

I can only imagine. I’m not that flexible anymore in my right hip. I’m almost afraid to take them off.

I actually just got rid of the strap on the bottom all together and replaced it with a long piece of rope. I wrap it around my ankles and calf a couple times and then bow tie the ends. It makes them easier to take off in the tree and I never have to thread anything. I can take some pics tonight if anyone is interested. Next project is to redo the straps on top and make them easier to remove once u get up the tree. I don't like my current system.

I spurred down all season and don't mind it at all now. My biggest fear with the spikes is dropping one of them lol but I just came up with something that takes that worry away. I'll take pics tonight and post it....

Just a simple tether made from paracord and a Nite Ize S biner. I can clip the biner to the saddle before I climb and it doesn't interfere at all. When I take the spikes off I can let them hang behind me until I hang them off a hook on the tree or lower them back to the ground with my haul rope
