Well that didn’t take long. I broke my new singer finishing my first saddle build. I think I tried to punch through too much webbing. For those with a singer 4452 how many layers can you see through?

Thanks. I almost just sent you a pm directly. I am pretty sure I just too pissed off at it and tried to do too much. .

Somehow @always89y can sew through more layers on his 4452 than anyone else. He is a wizard with that singer or he got some factory freak. Whatever you do @always89y don't get rid if that 4452.
I did the same with mine. Broke it sewing I think 3 layers, to be fair that is far more than it was designed to do. So no surprise. Go out and find a older singer 15-91 or 15 clone. That will do better. I did and it sews alot better and handles multiple layers of webbing better. Of course now that I've gone down that rabbit hole I have one clone, one actual 15 91 and one 201-2. Oh and before that I went the rex 607 route. Worked ok, not enough presser foot height though. But I put on a sailrite monster wheel and now it really can sew slow and with great stitches.

My singer wasn't worth repairing according to the the singer repair shop. Find an older 15 91 it is an improvement.

I probably can't "see" through any more layers with my Juki than you can with your singer. I can probably sew through more layers though. I just couldn't resist the urge.

Are you turning the handwheel against too much resistance and just shearing the gear teeth? You could probably replace the broken gears. I did one on a Singer 640 and it was easier than I anticipated.

Why did you break your 4452 if you had that? That is good.

It doesn't work, at least my wife says it doesn't. Its on its way to the repair shop right now. And I didn't know I struck gold until I did a search on this forum. I am so freaking happy right now...

It probably needs to have the hook timed which is getting the needle and hook at the proper place at the same time. If you have any questions, I have gotten more than few of these old sewing machines sewing.
