I need a cheap, expedient bridge... by tomorrow.

I just got back from a 5 day trip and the prusik on my cruzr adjustable bridge is frayed out really bad. I have no earthly idea how that happened, but I need a new bridge as I leave again for another hunt in a couple days. I can't really afford to call cruzr and beg/pay for overnight on a new bridge. What can I use to make a fixed bridge in the mean time? Can I just go to REI and get some climbing rated tubular webbing and use the right knots?

Yeah my REI also had some sterling 6mm trc loops, not sure what your bridge is but you may be able to make a nice adj bridge upgrade if they have so 8mm resc tech……..

Girth hitch your linemans belt on one side and clip in your carabiner/prusik to the other.

How long is your tether?

You could tie a figure 8 at the end and use a carabiner to clip one side and tie an alpine butterfly to clip the other side. Then, simply connect your tether as normal to the bridge.

For a quick fix, REI sells climbing tubular webbing which will definitely work. They also sell climbing rated rope by the foot. You could buy some 8 or 9mm rated to several thousand pounds and tie figure 8’s on the end of that. Just remember to stay above 3000 lbs tensile strength for whichever you use. That way in frame position, it would take over 4500 lbs to break it. Another great rope option for by the foot is West Marine. They sell amsteel by the foot and also yacht marine double braided rope. It’s basically the same thing as old 16 strand climbing rope. 3/8” is rated to 4200 lbs and the 7/16 is 4900 lbs. If you wanna keep it adjustable, buy 4’ of 7/16” and tie a figure 8 on one end and a stopped knot on the other. You can get a few feet of 5/16 and do a double fisherman’s knot for a prusik loop or buy 3/8” and tie another figure 8 on one end, a Blake’s hitch onto the other line with a stopper knot. These will be fully functional bridges that work for a temporary or even long term fix until you have time to find or make another amsteel bridge. Good luck!

Sorry I haven't been able to address everyone's individual suggestions and follow up questions, but I surely appreciate all the advice. I've got a couple days to unpack, pack for another trip, process a deer and get this gear fixed, and on top of that get some fillings at the dentist and deal with work. Head is spinning. I appreciate you all!

I'll be sure to look over all of what they have at REI and find something that can work. I want to keep it affordable because I'm probably just going to replace it with another amsteel bridge from cruzr anyway, I just don't have the time to wait on them to ship one.

Post a picture of your existing bridge too-a lot of times people mistake the end of the bury coming out or some nonstructural fuzziness for a dangerous problem. I am not trying to insult your intelligence or suggest you use something that makes you worry, but some of the more seasoned members here may be able to weigh in on if the wear is "normal" or not if you're interested?

If you're worried about knots/etc or are unfamiliar, just go to REI and buy a sewn climbing sling--single, or double length depending on what you like. They'll probably have anything from 1" tubular nylon to 1/4" dyneema. Girth hitch one side too a bridge loop, and clip the other side to your other loop with a locking biner...Done.

I did this once and could not get the alpine butterfly back out after it was weighted for several hours. When you do this, are you using a carabiner and clipping in on that side? If so, a clove hitch would work just as well
You do have to break the knot if not dressed correctly by bringing the (2) rope ends inline and rolling the bends up and down to work it free. Kinda like how you break free a figure 8 but is easier.
