I was dumb...

I’ve had to go back up the tree 3 times to retrieve the rope because the separate pull down rope failed or it got stuck. Now I use JRB exploding hitch. Works very well.

I had to do the climb of shame the other day. I could not get the Maverick hitch to release from the ground. I had to climb back up and work the hitch for a few minutes to get it free. I was tethered into my backup second tether. I then tied the exploding hitch and rappelled down and it released well. I have been using the maverick as I am SRT climbing from paracord presets.

I haven't had to do the climb of shame for hunting yet, but I've gotten stuff stuck pretty good while rec climbing! Practicing outside of the season has helped me to realize what I can get away with and what I can't. My biggest tip is to use a pull-down line that is big/strong enough to manhandle without much noticeable stretch, pull from the angle you're releasing from, and to stand out away from the tree!
