Ice Rock Gnome

Anyone use the Ice Rock Gnome? It seems to be like the safeguard but the manufacturer claims it adapts automatically to different types of rope and climber weights. Also seems to be perfect for what we do.

Max weight rating of 200 KG comes to 440 lbs. Plenty to hold you but even a short fall would overload it. That's 1.9ish kilonewtons. Most guys try to stick with gear rated for 22KN or better. I used a different ascender that was rated at 200 KG and it worked fine but the number just bugged me. You're not worried about that?

Yea, I missed that. seems way too low for the purpose. Maybe the missed a zero? lol

I would say it would still probably WORK. Its just not rated well. It probably has a breaking strength of around double what its working load is...880 LBs. I'd imagine its just fine but since its Russian they just don't give a crap and you get what Borris gives you.
