Idea for Flooded Timber Boat

I’m a huge kayak advocate but in this case, I’d say a fiberglass canoe and a trolling motor if you don’t want to paddle.

Shallow draft, ease of navigation and quiet is the key.

@dalton916, what are your thoughts on a 1233 jon vs using my 15ft square stern polyethylene canoe?

On reflection, the polyethylene boat would probably handle a tree impact better and be easier to squeeze into places. Poly hull would be slicker on logs or shallow gravel. It also may (emphasis on may) have cleaner water closer to the stern than a wider backed boat.

Thoughts? They'd have about the same weight and cargo space capacity. Canoe is actually heavier, but doesn't need patching and is already registered for a motor.

I agree with everything you said about the canoe. I would prefer it for its versatility alone, much easier paddling than the boat should the need arise.

If it’s not turbo we are wasting time. LS motor and make the trees move out of fear.

Poly canoe would probably work better.

For a home made Jack plate.....two pieces of angle aluminum with a marine grade board to mount the motor. Two pieces of angle mounted to the boat and the other two to the board with just enough space to allow it to slide up and down inside the angle mounted to the boat. Drill holes and bolt where needed.

I used this canoe for skinny water and bream poaching in a secluded pond…..

The transom was rotten when I got it

So I cut a piece of 3/4 Marine (capitalized because it not only will withstand water, but will survive jarheads as well) Grade and beefed it up….

Even managed to save the original artwork that was on it when I got it….

That transom was a tank and although I only ever put a trolling motor on it I wouldn’t have hesitated to hang a 5hp back there.

I agree with GeoFish, you can build a transom extension out of wood. You are only using a 3.5hp motor.
might be worth taking an extra prop with you. good luck lol
