If you won the lottery tonight.....

Man… that’s tough. I might just stay in my home state of NY and I’d be happy with 250-500 acres of my own. Or whatever I could afford to pay for until I’m dead. I’d have a small home and live a simple life as I do now. I’d also still hunt public for a change of scenery.

Winning tonight= buy land in multiple states 100+ acres each. And an airplane to fly in between them lol

Edit: can't read. If I had to pick one, Alaska for sure. The more land the better. I'd buy up a bunch of land around the cities like Juneau to resell as they expand and a nice big piece somewhere far away for me lol

I’d make every attempt to buy back land here in Iowa from every out of state MLB player and fake country singer that does nothing for the state but take away land from common people for their 2 days of trying to put a buck on instagram.
When that inevitably didn’t work I’d buy as much as I could and open it to our IHAP program to give some darn public access back to the people who deserve it.
No minimum. When you’ve only got 2-3% public land in your state every acre helps.

I already said mine before in a similar thread. Besides the hunting dreams I’ve mentioned before, which essentially was 400 plus acres in Iowa, Kentucky, Ohio, Idaho, North Dakota and Kansas, there are a lot of other more important things I would do mostly for my Church and family to help humbly but effectively spread the gospel. Ideally, I’d like to do it in a way through my interests in hunting, bowhunting and trapping.

I think I’d buy (or long term lease) the properties I’ve been hunting in Nebraska for the last dozen or so years. But…I’d hire my good friend to quit his job and manage them. Then I’d ask about a half dozen guys to attend deer camp every year. Fly them out, buy their tags, shoot ducks and geese a day or two. Maybe hire some guys to film some hunts just for everyone’s enjoyment. Spend the off season dove hunting in South America, trout and red fishin in the south. Bone fishing in the Caribbean. All of this with friends and random guys…I’m 66, no tellin how much longer I’ll be doing this. So let’s make some memories and go out with a bang! Spend it-no one to leave it to (give the wife half up front). Oh, and take surf adventures the same way

Sorry, I’m not a very good reader apparently…… if I had to choose one state….. believe it or not probably Idaho. I love Whitetail hunting but I would love to hunt mulies, bears, elk, cougars, etc. In that beautiful country up near the Nez Pierce National Forest, they’ve mountain whitetail there too.

I’d go home - Alaska. Prolly buy at least 1k acres and erect giant “get off my lawn” signs every 100ft.
Oh yeah! ……. Alaska! That would be great but I’d miss hunting whitetails, then again, I could travel anywhere and hunt them if I win the lottery right??? Wouldn’t be the same though.

Hard to pick. Probably kansas farm ground and checker board as much as possible in CRP, cause I'm a sucker for upland. Also in a decent flyaway cause I still love to hunt waterfowl. 4-5k acres ish. If not kansas then north central Oklahoma same type of land for the same reasons. Probably near the great salt plains

After tax principal of about $500m invested at 7% nets you about $3m per month in income without ever drawing down the principal. If you are willing to draw it down then, well....Roll Tide.

On the interest alone I could pay to hunt pretty much any critter on the planet whenever I want in near ideal environments/circumstances. Owning the land to do this all on seems unnecessary, even if possible, and its own kind of fun.

I’d only buy a few acres and they’d be somewhere here in the northeast where there is tons of open land and public land. I’d save all the rest of the money so that I could afford time off to hunt all season every year. I’d also use the money to buy a great hunting vehicle like a truck with a small
Camper on the back. I’d rather be mobile and have time than have a lot of land that I had to pay taxes
On.

I'd invest most of it like TBSTAAFL was talking about. With the income, I'd buy something in that 2 to 3 thousand acre range over in the MS delta along the river, hopefully get an island or three. I'd build a little cabin and live out there. Then to keep the wife happy I would get her an apartment in Manhattan, lol. I'd hire a couple of good guys to manage it, keep an eye on things. I'd hunt that and then for any out of state travel hunting I would just lease land in destination states. That way if I didn't like the area, I'm not married to it. For hunting in the US, I'd hire a sharp young person who loved hunting and their full time job would be to research state tags, areas, etc and keep me hunting whitetail deer from the first season opener to the bitter end each year. I would not want to know the details, just give me a list of the states and dates.

I'd do a lot of hunting in Africa in the summers. I'd buy a couple of top notch safari companies in the best countries and I'd probably live over there half the year hunting cape buffalo. I'd fly to London and have Holland and Holland fit me for a matched set of double rifles perfectly fitted to me, one in 375 H&H and the other in 470 nitro. Have them and 2000 rounds each shipped straight to my safari camp. I'd also have a couple of longbows and compounds over there too and plenty of arrows and broadheads.

At $1.5Billion (only half that take home…) I think I would buy some land in many places. Iowa, Montana and here at home in VT. @Weldabeast is on to something as well… maybe some waterfront in FL with a nice fishing vessel to go with it.
Minimum of 100 acres in each spot.
