Increasing draw weight and tuning

Got some outdoor testing done this morning before the rain rolled in and so far I'm satisfied with the results of my tuning change. Prior to shooting I did swap out the 240 insert for the 250 on my EZ-V but made no other adjustments to the sight.

Here's the first four shots at 20 yards, 3 fletched and 1 bare shaft.

Again at 20 yards, this time with a fletched, bare shaft and fixed blade (Kudupoint and green nock).

Confident that they were all hitting the target and I wasn't going to send a flier into the woods I backed up to 30 yards and sent them again...

Decided to send one at 50 yards to see if I would need to make a left/right sight adjustment...

I'm happy with the results and the arrows flew straight to the target without any sideways movement. Keep in mind that I'm using an EZ-V sight with 52 year old eyes so it's difficult to get the exact sight picture and aim point each time, even more so once I get further than 30 yards. These groupings work for me and I'm confident the deer won't notice either, lol.

I’d be extremely satisfied with the fletched and bare shafts but it seems the broadhead is constantly low. I would take a few more shots to confirm if it is you or the bow causing this. You may need to micro tune the rest up a click or 2.

I spend a lot of time tuning till bare shafts hit with field points exactly to my abilities. Then I work with broadheads and get them to fly exactly with field points. At this point whatever the bare shafts do is fine with me. I remember watching a video from Greg Pool ( think that’s his name) and he demonstrated that once he gets a perfect tune, his bare shafts always hit a little low/right. The video was line tuning and if it’s an hour long, he spent 55 minutes rambling about nonsense lol. After trying this tuning method with field points, my broadhead tune was off. Not doing that again unless it’s for a target bow. Come to think of it… I think my broadheads hit low right which would explain a lot.

I'm currently shooting an Evoke 31 with 65# limbs set to 60.5#'s with a 29"dl. Arrows are GT Pro Hunter 300 spine cut to 28.625" C to C at 585 grs taw.
Only moving up 4.5#'s to max this bow out which isn't a big increase to throw things off, in my mind anyways lol.

when you change anything about a bow, then it can always make at least a small change to arrow flight...so you won't know until you try

if you want to use the same arrows, just be prepared to slightly decrease point weight, which will make the arrow slightly stiffer....your arrow is heavy enough that decreasing point weight by 25 grains won't negatively influence you

My guess is more than likely it's me but I will do alot more shooting to confirm it once the weather gets better. It's hard to be precise with EZ-V compared to a single pin sight so the variation could definitely be due to my inconsistent hold point. I'll keep you posted and I appreciate your insight.

i find if i broadhead tune and then shoot a bareshaft afterwards that the bareshaft flies the same or better than before

but, if you are using a long broadhead, these tend to shoot lower for me because they change the balance point slightly compared to a field point

I played with my EZV a little but I’m not ready to commit to it YET. One thing I did that helped me gain confidence during practice was to shoot at a 14-16” orange ribbon. I taped mine to a pizza box and use it occasionally for up/down and left/right tuning. I would use it with the tick marks to get a good up/down and left/right. Takes out the guessing part of aiming.
