Hey guys, I need to make some room in my sewing room, so I'm selling one of my machines. This is a really cool machine, and the head itself is all ready to go. I will provide you with a clutch motor, but you'll need to find a suitable table for it. You could use an industrial sewing machine table, build one, or cut a hole in a sturdy used table you find at a garage sale. Or, if you want to help me move a giant machine, I'll give you a frame I have and you can add some plywood for a top.

Singer 42-5
  • Made sometime around 1918
  • Configured to use common 135x17 industrial needles
  • Kick foot (predated walking foot) to feed heavy materials and thick layers
  • Handles tex 69 to 270+ thread without issue.
  • Capable of sewing leather
  • Built in bobbin winder
  • Huge 10" handwheel means you can set this machine up on a wooden box and manually sew with ease
  • Cool oversized bobbins (still available online)Singer.jpg

Here's a video of the machine in action, set up on top of a couple ammo boxes . It's going through a few layers of webbing on top of a couple layers of cordura with tex 69 thread (the bottom range of thread for this machine). I'm just handwheeling it here, like a speedy awl on steroids. Despite its age, the wheel on this thing spins with hardly any effort.

If a guy were interested and short on space, this could be set up on top of a small wooden frame of 4x4's laying on their side--roughly 24x12x4--and handwheeled to great effect.
