Is it safe (strength wise) to replace my 1/4 “ to lighter 1/8” amsteel ropes on my DIY 1 sticks? I’m using harken 150 cam cleats. Not sure what to do. Full bury on the 1/8” only??
Help.

The 1/8” in full bury is plenty strong on a stick. The stick will not ever experience shock load and also the amount of weight on the strap will always be less than the actual weight of you on the stick because the standoffs are supporting the bulk of the load and the amsteel is only keeping the stick tight to the tree

Good points. Never thought about the shock and standoff supports being a factor. Not so much concerned on the weight as the bulkier rope but mainly safety. I’ll give 1/8 a try. Thanks!

I use 7/64" daisy chains on sticks and steps while climbing (but not one sticking) and I have no fear. Your 1/8" amsteel would tear a cam buckle that comes on straps in half.....so I'm saying that if you'd trust a strap with a buckle then you should also trust 1/8" amsteel from a strength angle....the amsteel is probably also stronger than the flat strap that comes with sticks

Thanks for your good help. I always appreciate advice from those who are more experienced than I. Thanks!
