It's just...a little crush... - Review of the JX3 Hybrid Saddle

Hey guys hoping for a little guidance from the pros. Just got a Jx3 I haven’t figured out how to pack my crap in I’m hoping for some recommendations on how to set this thing up. I use 4 beast sticks

This is a"sling pack" from Duluth Trading, that I wear slung across my chest
Get the JX3 on your back, then put this on, it is big enough for all day sits and small enough for short sits.
Built from canvas, very quiet and durable, easy to hang on a tree hook.

Pro tip for winter sits: get a piece of 1" foam, cut to shape, and slip it between the webbing and mesh on the bottom side of the seat.
Makes for a much warmer sit, with little weight added.

Trying to get used to the bulk of this with the fanatic setup has been tough. It feels weird once I’m tethered in to actually sit like the bottom portion is riding to high. Any tips ?

I'm about to break out my Fanatic set with the temp drop. Didn't notice an issue last year. I do find that I like to reach back and scooch the seat forward from time to time, especially if I've done any leaning.

Assuming the tether/biner is set so the seat is level when sitting there shouldn't be much of an issue. As Kyle has said with his video, if you can get the seat level such that you can lift your feet with no change in the fork, you've got it right.

Separate “crap” into 4 categories:

Weapon - carry it.

Clothing - can be carried between seat and frame because you will be taking the hybrid off to get dressed anyway. No pack needed. Roll fold shove them back there in whatever way works best. I prefer to lay my seat down on ground, seat frame upright. Lay everything on the seat then fold the frame back to make the sand which. A million different options for securing that bundle.

Climbing method - folks round here say beast sticks fit perfect sideways on the hybrid. Don’t know never had them. Try that. If I used sticks, I’d opt for some that were narrower than the frame, lightweight, and strapped sideways underneath the hybrid behind my butt. I use the JX3 sticks on the rare occasion I use multiple ones and they pack well on the seat as designed by john. I’ve got old posts in here and in other places with sticks inside the frame/seat space. Not ideal, but if you’re taking the whole thing apart to get dressed anyway, who cares.

Everything else: my opinion is just that… leave water out of the equation - if you carry more than you can fit in your pockets, a small hip pouch or two, and either a bino harness or smallish pack that can be shoved back there with your clothes, you’re carrying to much crap. You’re going sit in a tree and play on your phone or look at squirrels for 4 hours. Don’t need much to do sit on A$$.

If you need a lot of water, almost assuredly you’re not sweating a bunch and need a ton of water.

This is broad strokes, I’d be happy to offer more specific information. But we’d need all the standard information on you and your hunting style. Post a picture of how you pack it now, and a picture of all the stuff you carry on a typical hunt spread out

1-sticking with the JX3 Hybrid and Wide Top stick is getting better and better. I think I've fully adjusted to not having a cam cleat and I like that it is quiet to untie.

The latest tip that helps quite a bit is setting the rope on an angle rather than straight across the trunk. This has been in a lot of 1-sticking videos but I've never used the technique cause I didn't care to maximize each move. With the Hybrid it's more about making it easier to reach the tie off point without leaning way over and undo it. Angled rope helps a lot. I'm now pretty smooth and I climbed pretty high today without breaking a sweat.

The 3 step OOAL aider continues to shine while climbing, as does the wide top stick as a platform.

Tied a piece of paracord to the lower bridge loop gear loops on the left side and wrapped a gear tie up higher. Trying it out as a quick deploy holder for the HCMini. Seems functional so far. A little nervous I might bump it off though. Dropped a bow once with my Gen1 Hybrid using the clips. We'll see.

Just posting my journey in case it helps anyone. Gotta do something while I wait for Bambi. Only 87 more to go before I can join the killers club. I'll be 118 at my current age and pace.

Pictures!

The stick setup. And sure that too!
It's just a JX3 stick with the platform and an OOAL 3-step attached. I don't have pics of it.

On the bow holder it held the bow all night fine. I didn't have to draw on a deer, so there's that test to remain. I wonder if that threaded hole behind the grip would take some kind of eye, or hook out whatnot and be a better place to loop some shock cord or paracord.

You’ve got me considering this. I’ve always used the LWHC as my climbing method/platform, but one sticking with a JX 3 stick with platform looks like it could save me a couple of pounds.

A couple pounds (assuming you already rappel or you plan to 1-stick down).

Plus my bet is you'll prefer the stick platform to the LWHC at height. That silly bent tube is everywhere you need it to be and nowhere you don't. I can't get over how perfectly it pairs with the Hybrid. Which is why I can't shut up about it.

I have been 1 sticking with my JX3 and I love it. I think the JX3 makes it easier than a regular saddle. I take my time and sit a minute or two between moves, it keeps the noise down and I never sweat.

So I recently discovered that you secure a heavy jacket to your JX3 with the load haul straps and leave it there while climbing and starting your hunt when you need it you just reach back and pull it out of the straps at height. If you have the haul straps give it a try.

I snapped a pic before heading up tonight. Not sure it shows anything of note, but there you go.

1-stick trip up was smooth again. Loving it.

Platform stick rocked again. I spent time facing 3 different directions and never changed my tether location. I think the tree fork and the platform stick are made from the same piece of vibranium.

Didn't use my paracord bow holder tonight just kept the Mini in my lap.

I didn't see any deer, but damn I was comfortable, and it was a beautiful night in the swamp.

Once again, this website has cost me several hundred dollars. I just ordered a JX 3 stick with wide top stick. 40 feet of 9 mm sterling rope, mad rock safeguard, and three step aider. All in the name of shaving around 3 pounds off my gear load. I really enjoy hunting Public land in the mountains, but it is definitely getting more difficult each year, and each additional pound is noticeable. Hoping this helps.

It would be great if JX3 could figure out a way to create a platform using just that wide top bar and the least amount of material below it to secure it to the tree (not a full stick).

I'm envisioning using the Sladder as a climbing method (or any rope or other non-stick merhod such as bolts), but still using the platform given how effective it is. Basically I don't want to carry a 3 lb stick just to have a platform.

All you need is that bent tubing, which weighs 1 lb by itself and some way to attach it to the tree, which seems like could be less than 2lbs.

I want John to figure out the JX 3 ultralight. Somehow reconfigure the seat to make it much lighter, but still rigid enough to support the tree fork. The tree fork is an absolute must have. Shaving 3 - 4 pounds off it would be a game changer.

Wild edge stepp, with the perch or something like the JX3 top step.

Also, great minds think alike…

I’ll mess with a stepp and the sladder and a wide platform at some point.

This is just too perfect though. I’m at 16’ cuz I need to be, but could easily get another 2’.
