Hey everyone new to the forum been saddle hunting 4years now (guidos web) anyone used the jx3 hybrid yet thinking about getting one but not sure if its worth upgrading. Also im gonna try using srt method this year getting tired of hauling sticks threw these wv mountains any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome! You’ll want to set aside a few hours and page through this one...

Enjoy. Lots of good info on that thread and plenty of guys that love the jx3 around ready to help with any questions you can’t find answers to.

Welcome to the site!

My Jx3 has increased the enjoyment of hunting for me. A ground hunting chair mode is valuable.

If your trying to reduce weight, a hybrid is not the way to go. I use the web and a regular saddle and the weight difference is noticeable. I would look at a modified Caine method as your best choice, then art whenever you want

Hybrid. No pack. 5 pound saving minimum. No platform. 3 pounds.
No knee pads. I do use a few squirrel steps
The difference is less than imagined

Less then imagined unless you have to carry it 2 miles up and down hills. There’s a reason the make 5 lb mountain rifles.

I’m willing to bet that I walk more miles per hour spent in the woods than 95% of this forum. I carried the hybrid over half the time last year, and exclusively this year(with the exception of one hunt to trial something). Over half of my walking has been on terrain which would be considered hill country or steeper

Ontario is right, it is less than imagined. Reality is often different than perception of numbers on a page.

also, I have a 5lb mountain rifle because you’re right haha. But for whitetail hunting, it’s just not that noticeable. Especially when you’re recharging the batteries in the hybrid after that walk instead of tinkering with ‘comfortable enough.’

If I were truly walking two miles in and out to a known set every day, Id probably just sit on the ground. Most of my walking is scouting/still hunting with the hybrid on my back. I don’t even notice it.

True. The hybrid feels light because the frame makes it feel that way. It is actually nicer than wearing a saddle in with fleece bags trying to pull the saddle off my butt to my knees

Unless you try both you will never know. Less complaints about the hybrid than most saddles

I just got a Jx3 and can't believe how well it carries. So much better than the web. And the fact it makes a great seat if I'm roaming is going to be such a huge benefit. The versatility will keep me from having to carry a seat, or pad, backpack, will pack turkey decoys in it...I'm sold. I mighy get a ghost blind runner to uses with it as a seat, and I bet it would be perfect to carry that too!

I carry a hybrid, one stick and a strap with two steps on it and that is it. I will guarantee most set ups with a regular tree saddle and platform are just as heavy

If your considering the jump from GW to JX3 it’s big, i think it’s more comfortable & easier to streamline a system with..... you’re not really saving a bunch of weight in your system ( but you didn’t really ask that) also packs waaaaaaay better.

I don’t know anything about srt, but I’m usually climbing 400’ - 600’ in steep mountain terrain on every hunt. The JX 3 carries more comfortably than my pack. The first three weeks of bow season afternoon temps were in the mid to high 80s every hunt, but the seat and backrest breathes to allow good airflow. This is the best piece of gear I have ever purchased for mountain hunting.

@wvbandit I have only had three different saddles in my twenty years of saddle hunting. Started with a Trophy line saddle then bought a Guidos web from Butch and this year I bought my JX3 hybrid. I am 62 and the comfort level while sitting in a saddle is very important to me. As well as how comfortable the saddle and my equipment are to pack into my location I am hunting. With the web the comfort level of sitting in it was great, however packing the web and my equipment in was very uncomfortable. I had to jam my extra layers and very minimal equipment I brought into the space between the seat and back and even in cold weather I would sweat like crazy while walking. the hybrid makes packing extra layers so much easier and being as the back of the hybrid is like a pack frame it is very comfortable to do so.

I will be selling my Guidos web and Alps outdoor Z pack because this does both.
