Kestrel vs evo

So I want to purchase a used saddle to lower my cost if possible. I have one person who may sell me a size 2 kestrel but still waiting on that. I’ve seen an evo pop up for sale. It’s not the size I want but it got me thinking about the differences between the two. I’m not too crazy about the weight because at this point almost anything is lighter than my climber.

So can you tell me what the differences are and why you would prefer one over the other.

I have owned both and personally prefer the Kestrel. Smaller, lighter and easier to put on - I put it on at the truck and hike in however far is needed. Evo wasn’t small enough for me to want to do that. Comfort is comparable between the two, especially with a back band for Kestrel.

I have both as well. The Evo has a lot of possible adjustments and I was never really able to get it dialed in to a point I was really comfortable in. My size 2 Kestrel on the other hand was comfortable for me right out of the package.

I have both, comfort is the same. Back band works with both. Weight is the main difference and its not that huge of a deal.

Kestrel is superior. The evo is heavier and more difficult to get just right. IMO

Evo is far more comfortable the Kestrel is a little more minimalist. Chose what’s more important.

Kestrel by far, there is a reason they don't make it anymore.

I have the evo I use a camera strap as a back band. I can get comfortable in it. But as stated above everyone is different. I can say I bought the used evo for the same reason as you. Save some money and get into saddle hunting. I love my evo. That said there is something about saddle hunting that drives myself and others obviously to constantly get more and more minimalist. So personally. if I was doing it again and the kestrel was in my price range I would go with that. But now that I have the Evo I have a lot of other stuff on my list that will take priority before a new saddle.

The evo is fine. Takes longer to dial in for comfort and is heavier

That is what makes the kestrel better
