Knee pads

I’m looking at adding knee pads to my tree saddle set up. So while I wait for my saddle to be delivered, I would like any tips, tricks, brands, any info on what everyone uses so I can make a decision on what to get. I’m in northern Wisconsin so they would need to be able to handle colder weather. Thanks for any and all info.

I think most everyone on here recommends the Arctryx. I'm going with a pocket on the outside of the knee to insert a smaller knee pad (from Sitka ). Check out G2 Outdoors video on an alternate method of knee protection:

I was looking at the Arc’teryx ones. I like the leaf knee cap ones that they sell on tactical gear.com. They seem to be a decent price along with other ones as well. IMG_1071.jpg

I picked up some of the Arcteryx ones from LAPolice gear last week; they had a special for ~$50.

You’re from Wisconsin- surely you have some hockey shinguards???

My arcteryx were expensive, but they've held up great. I've got a solid year on them and have spent a lot of time canoeing "canadian style" with them in addition to logging lots of saddle hours.

Kneeling makes the old battleship a lot more manageable, at least until you can find something to counterbalance it!

When canoeing with a dead deer is it easier to be on your knees? I ask because there is a spot of logging property that I want to try and get to but looks like the way I can do that is to park we’re a creek comes out of a lake and canoe a good quarter of a mile back to reach it

As I wait for my first saddle I would be interested to hear why some guys choose knee pads over a pad strapped around the tree and vice versa.

You don't have to carry knee pads. I've literally worn mine all day and never noticed them until I went to take my pants off at night and wondered what the heck was going on!

If you kneel to clean a deer, inspect sign, or whatever, they are nice.

You ALWAYS have pad where your knees are. My ROS lets me hunt 360* around the tree, and it would be hard to wrap a pad around the entire trunk.

They make ya look tactacool.

Never felt the need to use them. I do use Kuiu pants with a knee pad sewn into them. It doesn’t offer much protection for my knees. It very light and thin but protects my pants.

I just use the back of my backpack. It has some nice padding. I hate the feel of knee pads while walking although I may feel different if I had a nice pair.
