Here's a quick tip I don't see many people figuring out or offering. Set up in a tree leaning toward your face! I've found that having a set up with a tree leaning toward your face a bit, just a few degrees, has many benefits. One thing saddle hunting can do is create knee pain especially if you have arthritis in the knees . Trees against the knees, even with knee pads creates pain. The whale tail on the JX3 is the only excellent way to prevent this. Anyone using something unique to get the knees off the trees in a regular saddle.

Having a tree leaning towards you changes your tether angle just enough that when you go knee to tree, it reduces the pressure enough to manage for longer periods of time. Another benefit of having the angle, at rest you swing toward the tree and have much more control when leaning out on a platform for a shot. With the tree leaning away from you, you lose that control and your body wants to swing around the tree at all times. Also, very uncomfortable.
One more tip, smooth barked trees! Rough pine, oak, hemlock, chestnut, hickory, etc. is terrible on the body. If you can sit in a smooth maple or a less aggressive oak, do it!
