Kong Duck vs Ropeman 2 (or Prusik)

So I went to 8mm tether. It came with a prusik knot and poor man's Ascender. I was trying to keep weight down by not buying a kong. I find that knot does in fact slip. Tips??

Another wrap on your prusik knot might work. You didn’t say what size rope the prusik is made out of. If I remember right the guide is that the prusik size should be 60-80% of the rope you are using it on. So 5 or 6mm for your 8 mm rope. I use a Kong because I run a long bridge and a really short tether. Can’t get my tether as short as I like it with a prusik.

I like the ropeman 1 for lb, tether, mine are backed up by a prussik below it. I run a ropeman 1 on resctech which is out of spec, but I also use a madrock carabiner that has a larger diameter(HMS?) inside the ropeman 1. I haven’t been in my saddle for a few weeks, but plan to start using more knots and less metal. After learning the Michoacán friction hitch, I may lose a couple RM1s. I’d say take a look at knots and their application before buying any mechanical……there are lots of ways to spend money here that is unnecessary. =0)

I have 2 RM1 sitting unused in my drawer ever since I learned the michoacan and now the JRBSTAH. That's the JRB self tending ascender hitch. They absolutely do not lock up and are very easy to use one handed! The only metal in my system are the carabiners. Learn them and save your money!

...samesies.. I climb with sticks but I had a rm1 for about 1/2 a season.. yeah it makes moving lines easy... but not THAT much easier... plus it's going to ding off the sticks or platform EVERY TIME
