Ladder climbing method

The concept of the flipping J-hook is interesting, and probably has some other practical applications for climbing. Seems like an interesting system overall, but from the two videos, I still don't understand how all of it works. And it seems like this fellow intends to sell these systems, but I've yet to see him mention how a person can buy one. Which is unfortunate, because I just had my credit card sitting on my desk as I watched his video while I was purchasing other gear from Dan Infalt.

It is an interesting method. It looks like he has built a 5(?) step aider with foot stirrups on each end. On one side of each end is a J hook and opposite side he has an Amsteel daisy chain. He hooks it up, climbs up and into the stirrups then works the ladder up between his feet and then pulls the "bottom" and it slips loose. He then raises it up as high as he can and hooks the bottom up above his head and that is now the top. My only concern, and maybe it is unfounded, is the possibility of the daisy chain popping off of the J hook.

It's a neat idea. I did not quite understand the reason for the last part where he is hooking it up securely. Is it to serve as a gear hanger or does he intend to stand in the stirrups and not use a platform or a ring of steps? I'm not sure on that one. If I weren't completely comfortable with 2TC at this point, I might consider purchasing one.

The feeling I got from the two videos is that he intends to market these commercially, which is just fine. I'm guessing these are the introduction videos and at some point, he will provide purchasing information.

The possibility of accidentally bumping off the hook also was my first concern when I saw how he was doing that.

i guess i'm like the saddle version of a doomsday prepper....but i want to be able to get down the tree immediately without using any gear (if needed)......seeing those steps and sticks under me is comforting...probably illogical

Agreed. For me, I’ve determined that rappelling down with my devices is the safest option.

Climb a tree with a yellow jackets nest and you will quickly see the logic in it. I have, and I'm allergic, having sticks in place to quickly descend kept me from being in a world of hurt.

I'd have to do a bunch of testing before I was confident that hook attachment was secure....if u weren't paying attention uneven bark or knots could potentially maybe have that hook roll in my imagination.
I have had a climbing aider design that u slinky/leapfrog up the tree for a while in my head and this is very similar....wonder how much it's gonna go for? I would use with a platform and rappel down and not do all the gear hanger stuff...very similar to the way I climb. I got 2 separate stirrups and an aider and hes got an aider with 2 stirrups attached...I use rope for attachment method and admittedly it isn't as quick as that daisy chain hook I know it isn't gonna let go...I can slide down a little but friction/cantilever catches up and I stop sliding. It's slow and semi controlled...Linesman's belt catches first anyway. If the hook was to roll or something funny and the loop slide off that'll be an abrupt drop....linesman would catch but that 1 would probably hurt

I remember watching your climbing demo a few months back…it sure was smooth and you definitely had it down. That’s the first thing i thought of when i saw the sladeer vid.

I believe there is some downward slack when it’s attached, just like I do with my one stick. That slack gives when it’s pulled up, it kind of frees up some line so it comes unhooked……I think. It does seem like inverting a 3 or 5 step aider could work very well! I like the idea and it’d be easy to go around limbs too. I agree it’ll probably come out for sale soon. Personally I hope he makes a fortune!
