Had my first sit in the Revenant set this evening. It was a calm 27deg at 3pm when I climbed into the tree and was 21 deg at dark when I climbed down. On my upper body I was wearing a heavyweight 400g merino base layer, a heavy weight grid fleece hoody and the Revenant jacket. Lower body was 250g merino base layer, heavyweight synthetic base layer and the Revanent pants. I was warm the entire sit and think I would have been good several degrees cooler. I didn't get to tests it's wind blocking ability as it was calm but, so far I am impressed, especially for the closeout price.
My thoughts so far:
- Price is nice for what you get.
- The Revenant doesn't seem as warm as my EF1 Fanatic jacket. I haven't put it through the paces, but that's my initial impression. It doesn't claim to be or have to be, but that's been a benchmark in the discussion.
- I like the hex fleece upper, but the lower tricot fabric doesn't seem as tough. I don't really understand the design choice of splitting the torso fabric. (I know they are saying the tricot reduces weight and facilitates movement, so maybe it's just that I don't prefer it).
- Fit, if the L is a .5 and the XL a 1.0, I'd like the .75 please. I'm 6'3, 215. The XL fits great for layering up. But my EV1 Fanatic gives a bit more warmth in a trimmer package. The L fits ok too, but it's just a bit snug in the shoulders. Enough to maybe annoy me, or not, I'd have to have some hunts to know. I was hoping the L would do me right with just a baselayer in lieu of a Stratus with a baselayer and vest. The warmth is there for certain, but the cut isn't perfect for me.
- The interior fleece isn't the high nap next to skin kind that I thought it might be. Not that I was needing that (it's more of a survivalist approach). The interior is plush enough.
- The camo pattern. I thought I might hate it, but it's pretty nice in person.
So I'm debating what to do here. If I didn't have EV1 Sitka already, no brainer the Revenant stays. But I do. The XL with layers is going to be alot like the fanatic with fewer layers. The L fits the niche between Stratus and Fanatic, but doesn't quite have that perfect fit.
Keep one, keep both, return both?
Hard to return baselayer priced jackets like these. Plus, extra coats mean less laundry.
