Late Season Camo

It's hard to say but I would think large if you plan to layer. I am 30" waist and I have the Medium Savanah early season pants and I can wear the Coldgear storm fleece pants under them with a coldgear base layer also. The pants I bought have a drawstrap and buckle on the hips where you can cinch then in an inch or so. With no layers I have to wear a belt with them early season.
I'm 29 or 30 waist and I got the mediums and they have extra room for layers under them.

Do you think the Hydrotherm is the warmer jacket?

I see:

Hydrotherm = 150G in body & 100g in sleeves and hood
Revenant = 100g in body, 60g in sleeves

But the Revenant adds what looks to be a warmer interior fabric.
Yes the hydrotherm is some warmer but not a lot.

I had the same question.
In addition, I am always a bit cautious about what some people call "late season".
Late season for me in south Alabama (when our rut is on) is coldest mornings in the high teens low twenty. But those are rare mostly high 20's to low 30's buuuuttttt we have very high humidity and it makes it feels colder to me than the same temps in Virginia where I grew up.

A crinkly membrane wasn't the source of the noise complaint regarding the o.g. EVII Fanatic Jackets, it was a noisier berber fleece shell. They addressed it. I'm sure product release videos talking about that are still out there. That said, those gen1 EVII fanatic jackets weren't "loud" imo.

The quietest Fanatic was prior to EVII.

The membrane on my Forest Stratus bibs, now it surprises you. You definitely hear it on the move, but it's not something I notice when on stand.

Good discussion.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Scentlok has come up with and hope at these year's end prices it stands up to the "premium" stuff. I have had good luck with the brand.
I've never owned the premium stuff so cant say but I have been impressed with the Scentlok stuff. Its warm and very quiet. I haven't tried it in the rain yet.

If anybody wants to send me some premium stuff I'll be glad to compare them. LOL

Yeah, I'm torn. I'm thinking about ordering a large also before they sell out and send the one back that doesn't fit. I'm not sure if you can return their sale items? Might have to call tomorrow and find out.
Yes you can return items but you loose some money in the return. But its not a lot. I'm thinking it was 5$ or something. The only thing that I returned was Crosstek Hybrid Insulated Jacket (scentlok.com) because it was a little noisy on the outside. Its kinda like what i would call a puffy jacket. Would work good for layering but just not worn as the outer layer because of the noise factor. Wish i had just kept it now tho just for layering.

Also if you sign up for there email you can get 20% off your first order. Not sure if it works for clearance items tho. I know I'm rambling but its free shipping over $100 too and sign up for the 1641561431405.pngand get 20$ reward

I saw that you are in Canada so your definition of cold and my definition will likely be a bit different but here it goes. I am in Mississippi and we do not get a lot of cold weather so therefore we don't get a chance to acclimate to it. Last week we had mid 70 degree weather. Today it is about 25 degrees. We also have very high humidity both during hot weather and cold weather. I think that this "wet cold" has a lot to do with how cold it feels but since I have never been farther north in winter than Ohio I can't speak to that. I'm sure not trying to win any who's got the coldest hunting conditions contest, I just know it is cold enough for me.

Our coldest time of the year during deer season is typically January. Late season to me denotes 20 to 30 degree temperatures, often accompanied by winds in the 20 to 30 mile per hour range. We do get some teens and single digit days too. We rarely get snow but ice is a big concern. Our infrastructure is not set up to deal with ice and snow like northern states. We don't have snowplows and people don't know how to drive on ice. Also the woods are devoid of foliage by this point and the deer have been hammered by an unrelenting barrage of rifle hunting since the second week of November. The smart ones are nocturnal, the dumb ones took a ride in someone's truck.

I usually try to hunt thick stuff far from any road or access trail late season and I tend to climb higher since there is a lot less foliage for concealment.

Yep. It's only $5.95 to process a return.

I did as @GCTerpfan and ordered the L too. If I don't like either I'm only out $12.

And they cost less than some premium brand's base layers so I felt it's worth giving it a fair shot.

I’ve been using their new merino base layers and really like them, be advised the top is fairly short, it won’t stay tucked in but other than that really digging them.

I'm sorry but in looking at that as an outer layer, there is no way that is going to keep me on stand all day here in WNY in the late season but who knows, I'm old school when it comes to hunting clothes and that system just does not look like it will trap air enough to keep you warm in the late season here. I went with an IWOM XT system for our late season.

Late regular season...Archery.

For me, I'm comparing it to something like the Fanatic Jacket. When it gets brutal here, that alone doesn't do it for me. I start adding...Kelvin vest...swap to Incinerator bibs...last resort, HBS.

For the days when I would choose the Fanatic rather than add a layer under the Stratus, it looks like an option.

FYI, Long nap fleece liners are meant to be worn next to skin. I have never tried that with a hunting jacket; It'd be in the wash all the time. Could you get away with it with Scentlok? That would be interesting to me.

I'm not sure you can find a jacket that compares with an Iwom.

Personally, I'm hoping it's at least as warm my Stratus jacket but, quieter. With a 400g Merino base layer, grid fleece hoody, puffy and Stratus I am comfortable to about 10 deg. with little wind and into the 20's with wind, and I could tough it out colder if I had to. If this can get me to those temps I will be happy.

good thread to read, as i need to spend some time in the offseason focusing on clothes. I'm headed out tomorrow (teens in AM, should warm to 30 by afternoon) and currently debating between cobbling a bunch of layers together or wearing my (black) carhartt jacket. I'll likely go for the jacket, may see if a camo t-shirt will stretch over top but the systems/companies/products being discussed here definitely seem like a better way to go. Speaking of which, i'm 6'2, 220 36 inch pants, if any of you Maryland guys that are testing larger sizes have trouble making returns I may be interested.

Had my first sit in the Revenant set this evening. It was a calm 27deg at 3pm when I climbed into the tree and was 21 deg at dark when I climbed down. On my upper body I was wearing a heavyweight 400g merino base layer, a heavy weight grid fleece hoody and the Revenant jacket. Lower body was 250g merino base layer, heavyweight synthetic base layer and the Revanent pants. I was warm the entire sit and think I would have been good several degrees cooler. I didn't get to tests it's wind blocking ability as it was calm but, so far I am impressed, especially for the closeout price.

How was the fit? Do you think you would have any issues drawing a recurve? On my Revanent jacket the arms fit snug and I don't think it would be an issue.

Tested my new Revanent jacket out yesterday and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna love it. I wasn't outside for long, perhaps 10 to 15 minutes, but the temperature was 3 degrees and the wind was blowing about 15 mph and the only part of me that didn't feel it was covered by the jacket. Seems to fit well and seems to be very quiet too. D*mn it! Now I'm looking at the matching pants. Cha-ching.

No problem at all. I went with the X-large jacket so I had room for a couple layers if needed but the sleeves are more form fitting then my stratus jacket in X-large, so there shouldn't be any issues. I didn't shoot with the jacket on but I did draw my recurve several times while on stand to check for clearance.

Just throwing my .2 in here. I have the Predator Ambush jacket and bibs. They are warm, windproof, and almost quiet. If I had to get a new set of late season wear I would look hard at Scentlok's Divergent line. I seen them at Bass Pro and they are dead quiet and should be warm and windproof. Only downside is they were a bit heavy and pricey. But 02 camo is 25% off right now so that helps.
