Learning the ropes

Just getting started and have been buying items to put my DIY things together. Finished my linemans rope, tether, and an amsteel 7/16" daisy chain to hang some gear off of yesterday.

It's a rabbit hole once you start getting into it! I am trying my best not to throw money at this new hobby and have been diy'ing everything, from sticks to saddle. Only thing I've bought is some various climbing rated rope and webbing, some biners, and a speedy stitcher and some thread. Its working out just fine for me so far!

Nice start. Do you think you are overdoing it a bit? An Amsteel sling to hold your backpack? Sewn backup tails on your knot?
I would be more worried about the Ropemen. In tests they severed a climbing line at 4kN or about 1000 lbs. There are several threads about it on this site.

You use a speedy stitcher? I have about 15+ hours of hand sewing in my gear so far.

What can I say? The lighting was not that great. But now I'm going to have to see if the amsteel fibers will take a die, camo that rope out.

Amsteel cannot be dyed unfortunately. It is white by nature, the colors are actually a coating and you can see that coating fade and the ropes turn more gray/white as you use them.

Are you using bluewater assaultline? That's what it looks like. I am giving that a shot for my first round of tether/linesman belt.

No complaints with mine so far. Little slick on the tree for the tether but manageable.
