Learning the ropes

It's a rabbit hole once you start getting into it! I am trying my best not to throw money at this new hobby and have been diy'ing everything, from sticks to saddle. Only thing I've bought is some various climbing rated rope and webbing, some biners, and a speedy stitcher and some thread. Its working out just fine for me so far!
 
Nice start. Do you think you are overdoing it a bit? An Amsteel sling to hold your backpack? Sewn backup tails on your knot?
I would be more worried about the Ropemen. In tests they severed a climbing line at 4kN or about 1000 lbs. There are several threads about it on this site.
 
Are you using bluewater assaultline? That's what it looks like. I am giving that a shot for my first round of tether/linesman belt.
