The tree I chose to hunt was just too big. My rope fit it fine but I should have picked a smaller tree and I would have been much more comfortable.

But yes, longer rope would work.

Within a single hour, I saw two deer, both out of range, from this tree this season... and that's all she wrote so far  Directly behind me is a hemlock that provides blending background.

The downed paper birch was like fence guiding them in toward me...

John Eberhart's 5th and 6th pictures are why I'm switching to the saddle reminds me of the pines where I hunt only they are thinner and most of the time burnt from forrest fires. I can get into those areas with the saddle but otherwise I would have to use a ladder stand and let everyone in the area know where my stand is! Awesome pictures guys keep them coming!

Your woods look just like my woods that I hunt in North Jersey!

I listen to John E and thus my set up its similar to what he does (I even have the same pack he uses)

I have a small bow hook on left side for bow (which I hold most of the time) and then I have a T screw on back side (more to the back right facing tree) that holds my tether up and I hang my Kathy Kelly pack. I do NOT like stuff hanging on my saddle or on the tree I want to shoot/walk around. If I am in a multi trunked tree I will try to set up in the middle and then my pack gets hung on a small hook either to the right or behind me - somewhere out of the way. I may occasionally hang my grunt tube or binoculars on the T square that holds my pack - but usually I want them in the pack but easily accessible.

Ga now, Tx soon
I don't have pics but I hang my pack on right side of me, I shoot right handed so it's ok usually. Bow hook on left side above tether strap. Call, etc in open pocket of pack in easy reach.

This is last year when I was using my Ken Molle saddle clone, pretty much the same setup this year except the Sit Drag, and any trees on corps or private property will have bolts instead of sticks. I do need to re-do my platform some... I used aluminum bar instead of tubing, so it is heavier. Also, I am getting some metallic popping when I shift from the leveling bolt head digging in the aluminum. A small steel plate should fix that.

The video was for non-beast/saddle hunters so there is some explaining that is unnecessary for all the guys on here.

Here are my two favorite set ups this year. I just started pistol hunting and so the first setup was using my lone wolf seat platform and pistol in a gnarly pine with lots of cover. Since the pistol doesn't much room, I didn't have to cut many branches out of the way.

The second was the last day of muzzleloader season. I was hunting with a buddy who offered to film if we saw anything come in. It was brutal cold and snowing

I thought I was a hunting nut! But you Ernie, you take the prize! I live north of Houston TX and if it was snowing like that, I would be enjoying the view from the house, not a tree! You are tougher than I am!

That's exactly what I said but Ernie made it seem like a stroll through the park on a Spring afternoon. That dude is an animal!!!

You guys crack me up. The honest truth is I hate the cold. I much prefer my early season bow hunts and my October elk hunts, but I shoot a lot more animals in November and December. When I moved to Minnesota I quickly discovered what cold truly was and had to learn how to dress for it.

The worst I can remember was opening weekend in Wisconsin a few years ago. It was -15 with 20 mph winds. I heard some say it was the coldest opener on record. Sitting in your stand more than a couple hours took willpower.

The were lots of people I know who never hunted that year. They just drove from camp to camp visiting friends and drinking like some type of weird bar crawl....

On a non hunting note, we were tailgating at a vikings game once where we had to have a shallow pan of water on the bbq with just the slightest flame under it. The purpose? You had to put your beer in the warm water to keep it from freezing in your hand. I think it reached -18 that day.

Like I said, hanging out at a football tailgating party ( voluntarily) where it's so cold that you have to boil your beer can to keep it from freezing between gulps. " Animal "
