Lighted nocks

Thanks for the thread. I've used nockturnals for a few years now, never had any problems with them at all. I bought another three pack to put on this years hunting arrows and have not fired them since the new nocks were installed. Because of the info here I'll pull the broadheads and fire the arrows with the new nocks just to make sure I have no surprises when the moment of truth arrives. A good reminder that ALL new equipment, no matter how small gets checked out prior to the season. Thanks guys.
 
I've never used lighted nocks but figured I'd give them a try after losing arrows. Camofire had some NAP Thunderglo on sale and thus far I really like them. They are billed as being a universal nock and come with three different sized inserts. I use GT extremes and Cabela's hunters and the largest insert was a bit too loose so I put a small piece of serving thread across the end of the shaft and shoved the insert down in, tightened it right up, burned the ends with a lighter. I don't think the small amount of material will affect flight that much. I've shot them a few times and appear to fly true and haven't had a nock pop out yet.

I hope you never do but would double up on my tape them on advice as I did have a universal fit insert cause a nock to come off while drawing on a deer. (Poor fitment) i shot that nock numerous times and never had an issue till the moment of truth. It is a little unnerving to watch your arrow dangling in the breeze while you watch a chip shot deer trot away from you. I was tring decide if could re attach it with my mouth at full draw but made the right call and let down. :) FYI deercame back through 20 minutes later and still came home with me.

I have small reflective tape on my arrows, below the feathers and below the nock.
 
I have shot Nocturnals for years and have been happy with them as far as noise and function go. I have some of the new models (purchased last fall) and liked the previous models a little better. The older ones seemed to fit the string a little tighter. I discovered the issue with them this year while going through my preseason check list. I test each arrow that goes into my quiver for group 10 to 60 yards. I had 2 that were the new models and 4 that were the old. I noticed the new nocks hitting slightly lower than the old ones at 30 yards, and the further I worked back the lower they impacted from the group. At 60 yards the new models were a full 8" low of the older models. I don't shoot deer at that range but everything gets tested that far. I had enough of the newer models in reserve and just switched them all out and adjusted zero for them.
 
I've used Knock Out lighted knocks for a couple of season now and they work great. No tools or magnets required.

I would think you would remember the name of your nocks if you bought some fire nocks as well. That’s a lot of cash to not remember what you bought.

I have some reflective tape that I wrap around the back end of the arrow, just overlapping the nock a bit for security on keeping them on and also if the nock doesn't light at least the reflective tape will aid in arrow recovery after the shot. I like the reflective tape idea!! Maybe ill use reflective tape for a turbulator in front of my fletchings.

Considering I bought these 5 or so years ago and they still work fine (other than the noise). If it doesn’t have the brand on the tool, I forget it. My simple mind has a hard enough time remembering where my keys are, not to mention the brand of plastic and LED on my arrows.

Same thought. If you have fire nocks you wont forget and neither will your wallet. I think I am going to go back to them. Never had one fail but switched arrow shaft diameter so could no longer use them.

If to turn them off you flip the arrow upside down and drop them on the nock then you have a fire nock.

If you have to shut them off by hitting them on a hard surface there firenocks. Being they lasted that long. They probably are firenocks.

Yup. I've tried a couple of different brands and have had an issue with basically all of them. Got a pack of Victory Spot Nocks to try this season. But they aren't as easy to turn off as advertised IMO. And I had them activate just nocking them on the string. Probably going to get some reflective wraps/tape and put on my hunting arrows.
 
Just switched to Nockturnals this year. Love them. Test-shot them with broadheads, they’re right on if not better than my Easton standards.
 
I've used Nockturnal's since I can remember. The only problem I've ever had was last week......shot a buck and the nock worked fine off the string. As soon as my arrow hit the deer the nock turned off and never came back on.
