Looking to add a either a Ropeman 1 or Ropeman 2 Ascender to my lineman's rope was wondering which is the better option.
Thanks
Art.

Both work. Two can chew up rope sheathing due to its aggressive teeth, yet accepts smaller diameter ropes. One doesn’t chew up ropes and requires larger diameter rope to stay within manufacturers spec. An alternative is the king duck, kind of combines the best features of both but is a little larger footprint.

The 1 has teeth more suitable to not eat your rope, but doesn’t cover as small of ropes. I used to have two 1’s. I ditched the one on my LB and use a swabisch with a tender, but I still use a rope man on my tether.

I have used the 2. No complaints but I went to a smaller rope and now use the kong duck.

use a friction hitch with a tender... no banging and no room for accidentally letting out your slack. My opinion is 100% on lineman's only, not tether, where a Kong Duck or Safeguard/GriGri win.

I run a 1 on both tether and linesman’s. I think they are 11 and 13 mm ropes (the bigger of the standard tetherd options). Work great for me.

Thanks to all what a awesome place,
Forgot completely about the Kong Duck and will go with that. It will be only for my lineman's belt as I currently use a Prussic for my safety tether.
What size and type rope is best used with a Kong Duck?

I think the specs go down to 9mm, but I know it works awesome on 8mm resctech

Specs are 8mm through 13 mm. I'm using on my trophyline tether.

I like the ct rollnlock over the others. The teeth aren't anywhere near as aggressive & doesn't chew up or fray my ropes.

If you’re running 8mm spend the money on a kong duck. I tried to cheap out and go with the rope man 2 and it’s trashed the rope in 1 season

1 for a linesmans generally. I use a 2 and it takes proper technique otherwise the teeth will snag rope fibers. You have to relieve the pressure before disengaging the cam and your ropes are fine. I use the 2 for a couple reasons but I would generally recommend 1 or a kong duck.
