Happy new year folks! 8679963B-039F-41B7-9058-A9FDCA8A4C13.jpeghad my first picker moment of this season. 24’ up in a hickory & settled into my tether, released tension in my LB & all is well. As I was fishing my LB around my bow a little pc of that hickory bark holding my tether up slipped loose & I dropped less than an inch…. Gave me that good ol kestrel feeling. That’ll get you good & alert for the morning hunt.

32 and Raining when I set up in the dark. Guessed pretty good only 20 yards off a trail, I wasn't sure where they traveled through. No lanes but I tried!

Man, how on earth can you deal with hickory bark? I sat in hickories twice before that was all she wrote. I prayed to Casey Jones’s thread injector and the gods of prusik on both occasions.

Was the best live tree where I needed to be….. not at all ideal. Going up & down on LB is terrible….. but that tree has great back cover & a 7-8” tree right next to it( great to lean against )

I get that. We seem to have cherries mixed in with our hickories, and most of the cherries are thinner diameter trunks but they’re clustered and the bark is really nice to climb in compared to hickory. Hickories are more plentiful where the deer are moving but if I can get a cherry tree right next to the hickory I need to hunt by, that’s what I’ll do. Extra credit if I can find an oak in the hickories instead *proceeds to cackle*. I admittedly tend to waiver in my commitment to the hunt if I’m dissatisfied with tree quality. I’m a climbing priss. Don’t like to crack my nails and whatnot.

Ole @Kenbama was out there hunting by me but he got scared off once he figured out the flintlock army was out in full force and he wasn’t wearing enough orange lol:tearsofjoy:. We had a good time. Look forward to getting out there and sharing hunts with him in the future. He’s a good fella if any of yall Kentucky or Alabama folks run into him.
