Lock stitching

I don’t see why not. It’s the bury that does the work the stitching just holds it in place when it’s not under load. I don’t know what the breaking strength is so test it and make your own decision. I used an army green heavy duty thread that I couldn’t break with my hands.

I've used braided fishing line. I ain't an engineer, but I wouldn't be afraid to use the inner strands of paracord, either.

I have an old Screaming Eagle harness that uses a very similar rope as Amsteel. It's bury is "secured" (stitched, if you will) with zip-ties.
I've used zip ties for a lock stitch for ground level use when I was experimenting with bridge length. Never experienced anything unsafe about using zip ties, but it was a short-term deal. I assume long-term use would be okay, but we all need to assess our own risk thresholds.
