Lone Wolf Doublestep Mod

Looking if anybody has a video on how they did a mod to their LW sticks with double sided steps. My plan was to use the steps from doublesteps.com and reusing the LW versabutton. Anything to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

I grabbed some dimensions off my LW stick, see attached. Based on those dimensions, this is what I am thinking of doing and am curious if anybody has an opinion on it:
  1. Cut the stick down to 23", taking the 9" off the top of the stick. My drawing shows 23-1/8" but I figure I will just do 23"
  2. Use the hole the versa button is currently located and put my top double step there
  3. Move the versa button to where the middle step is currently located. There are two hole options there (step hole and the hole for the bolt that stops the step) and I am leaning towards the one that is further from the top to help with securing to the tree. This puts the button at ~1/3 from the top which matches fairly close to where the button is on a standard stick.
  4. Put a double step at the bottom reusing the same hole the current step is located in.
I am not planning on making any of these mods until I have the pieces in hand from Eastern Woods Outdoors. Couple concerns that I am hoping the group can possibly help with:
  • Am I trying to hard to reuse the existing LW holes? By doing that am I sacrificing length/weight?
  • Most people are doing the Hawk Helium at 22" I figure 23" and less DIY is worth it, in my opinion
  • Any concerns with reusing the existing LW holes?
  • Anything I am missing or not thinking through well enough?
Thanks!

Nothing wrong with re-using existing holes as far as I know. Just check them out and make sure they aren't elongated or something. The only concern I would have would be the VersaButton hole. Might be a tad high, but you could try it and see how it works. A high VersaButton can lead to potential kickouts. Drilling a new 1/4" hole for that is pretty easy if needed.

Sure, I can follow-up on this. I did exactly what I mentioned above and I thought it worked great. I am getting 21.25" between the tops of the two steps. I have attached some photos. Couple things I will note:
  • I would get the bolts from Doublesteps for each step you plan on replacing. Their bolts are longer then what comes with the LW sticks and will fit better.
  • I ended up reusing the caps from my LW sticks and if you think you can too, then I wouldn't order the caps; save your self a couple of bucks.
  • I had stealth strips on my sticks before I did the mod so I kept them on and just painted the steps black before I installed them.
  • I thought using the existing holes worked fine. I don't think I needed to drill a different hole for the versa button but I would recommend people just try it without drilling a hole and then make their own determination.

I used the same holes but had to get some longer bolts. I bought some stainless steel bolts because I broke a couple of the others. There is a post on here somewhere with what I used.

Whatever you do, if you intend to stack em make sure you have material to lock to and your hole measurements are precise enough that the versa button bolt aligns to the clearance hole in the mating stick.

Using the existing holes, the versa button does not line up in the clearance hole. I didn’t find this to be an issue with how I stacked them but I could see it as a problem

With the above comment on the SS bolts, that is why I recommended getting the ones from DoubleSteps

Yeah I drilled new clearance holes, since I’m stacking em they seat down better.

One thing I considered last night was adding the Artisan Outdoors mini platform to the top of one of the sticks.
