Lone Wolf Dual Step and 3 Step Etrier Modification

I have a black diamond staggered step etrier or three and I camo taped all the steps in it, it's still hard to get my feet in, especially after I have weight on it. I really like the idea of this system, but I have recently switched back to the two step version with 4 muddy sticks and a couple Cranford rope steps at the top. If I can figure out a way to get my big feet in and out of the etriers, that would be great and I wouldn't have to carry extra rope steps when I use the sticks

That sucks. I use a CMI 3 staggered step etrier. I don't have those issues. It's not as simple as a regular aluminum step, but it works just fine for me.

I suppose if I didn't already have a pretty good confidence in and comfort level with several other methods, I probably would've spent some more time figuring this one out. I do plan to wOrk on this method maybe this next week because I like the idea , especially when I'll be hunting an area I don't know. I'm gonna depend on a friend to point me in the right direction for a general idea where to set up a tree( since I'll be hunting his brothers farm). But since they use climbing stands, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to wOrk it out even if I only use the one etrier and a couple rope steps above the Muddy sticks.

That makes sense. For me, this is the best system I've ever used. However, I haven't tried the Ascender/climbing rope setup yet. I don't want to invest the money to try it out. My next addition will more than likely be a DaveT seat platform on my top Lone Wolf stick. I've also considered adding one of my Muddy sticks back into the mix at the bottom of the tree. That would get the top of my LW sticks up to about 24 feet.

Yeah. That Dave system platform and saddle look sweet

Today I added a Lone Wolf seat to my top stick. I had to mess around with quite a few washers to make it all work, but it turned out well.

At first I tried the seat platform with no other attachment except the LW strap on my stick. This worked but it didn't feel that secure. It felt like the top "V" bracket wanted to move a little bit. After that I made a short whoopie sling and attached it to the seat posts like DaveT. That worked like a charm.

I'm 165 lbs without gear. I wouldn't want to be much heavier than me for this LW stick modification. When I stand on the outside of the platform with my tip toes on the very edge away from the tree I can feel the stick flexing ever so slightly. It didn't feel unsafe at all, but I could feel it nonetheless. When I was standing with my feet centered on the platform with my toes pretty much touching the tree, the platform was rock solid. Also keep in mind I wasn't in my Saddle. I had a lineman belt on, but 100% of my weight was on the platform. I think when I'm in my tree saddle and it's holding the bulk of my weight, the platform will be absolutely rock steady.

Add another v below the platform against the tree I will take care of the flex

the one and only "ImThere"

Thats a good idea

That is a good idea and I'm sure it would work. I worry that on oddly shaped trees the 3rd bracket would cause problems. Maybe not. I'm going to hunt on it a couple times the way it is now and see how it goes. If it continues to flex a little, I'll come up with something.

OK this is probably a dumb question but once you climb up how to you step into it. I assume you would need something like screw-ins steps above it and then lower the platform with your foot and step down to?

Looks good by the way

I finally got a chance to use my LW stick platform today. It completely rocks! Getting on/off at 20+ feet is just a tad tricky. With a little more practice I'm sure it will get easier. The whoopie sling makes a big difference in getting it nice and snug. I think I'm going to continue to use 2 Ameristeps and the boat buckle strap. Overall I give it an A-.

It looks like it would be awesome. I bet it is a lot easier on the old feet while hanging for hours.
I enjoy it when (like today) I hunt in a tree with steps and not my spurs.
The platform makes a world of difference when it comes to feet.
That looks like a job well done and I'm sure you're enjoying the heck out of it

You may want to consider weaving the Ameristep platform through the LW seat. That is how I secured the entire LW seat platform when using the Klemz design. Keeps everything rock solid.

Looking good guys. Is that seat still available Bassboy? Thats looks like one of the original LW seats before the batwing.

No idea if it's still available through lone wolf. I have 3 of the original lone wolf stands so I just swapped the seat when I saw KLEMZ design a few years ago. I don't think I'll use this one a lot going forward. I like the platform leveling and the ability to use a larger platform with the other design.
