Hey guys first post but have been creeping on all the crazy good ideas on here nonstop lately... Addicting to say the least. I have a medium mantis and have noticed slight hip pinch with it, its not horrible but enough to make it uncomfortable. This could either be inexperience being this is my first saddle or something that I can change for my style? I have seen some guys on here making the bridge longer which I temporarily did with my linesman belt which made it more comfortable (Around 40"). Just want to know from some experience saddle guys what the major benefits and downfalls are for making my bridge this long? I dont want to order the amsteel if it is not worth changing it. Any info is great!

I wouldn’t make it longer. It will take a few hunts for your body to get used to it. Tether height makes a huge difference.

I have the adjusters and they seem to help with sitting a little. However, I do find it more comfortable leaving them slack so I can transition from leaning to sitting without having to adjust them.

Ok yeah, the adjusters are part of the equation for comfort, really it's just playing around with all the different variables.

Sometimes time will get our butts in saddle shape too

How big are you? Is your saddle sized correctly? If it is too small you could be getting excess hip pinch. The downside to a longer bridge is that you need to have your tether connected to the tree higher in order to have enough tether to move around the tree.

I am a 31" waist 6' tall and 185 lbs. I did have my wife sit in it who is much smaller and she said it was extremely comfortable and did not feel that hip pinch feeling I was trying to describe to her. Then when I slowly squeezed the bridge tight together with my hands she started to notice it. I will say this style of hunting seems like fun!

It might be too small for you. I'd see if you can get a large to try out. I think its better to be a little big than small. Saddles can be hard to size and sometimes you just have to find what works for you. You are tall but really skinny so that is not the norm lol.

Alright I appreciate the info! I just got my mantis last week and plan on using it on a very near hunting trip so it may be too early to part ways with it yet. But definitely something I will be looking into if I am still feeling the hip pinch.

I sat in my hammock saddle last night and it has a long bridge on it. I shortened it, and it just didn't seem as comfortable to me even after adjusting tether height. I also liked the larger opening created by it as I didn't feel as confined.
