I love the mobility and versatility of saddle hunting. I purchased a guidos web stand a few years back, but found it to be uncomfortable on long sits and noisy as I maneuvered around the tree. Could I expect better performance from a kestrel in regards to my concerns?

Welcome from Sportsman's Paradise. I won't comment on the difference between a Kestrel and a Guido's web because I have only used the Kestrel. But to me the Guido's web looks like it would be much harder to shoot from.

I can't comment on either, lol, get a rock climbing harness and a sitdrag, you won't find a cheaper option, unless you do the rock climbing harness with the fleece saddle, I don't know why more folks don't do that it's so cheap!! I found both to be very comfortable and won't be upgrading anytime soon, I've got too many other things that I need to spend cash on...guns, boat, bow, etc...lol

I don't know how you'd get a Kestrel to make any noise. I'm not familiar with the Web but if you make any noise using the Kestrel, it will be you making the noise (scuffing your feet or rubbing against something) not the Kestrel or its ropes.

Ropeman and carabiners can make noise if you aren't careful, I don't know anyone that doesn't use either of those two things.

Wow although I’ve never used a web personally, I’ve also never heard of someone being uncomfortable in one. Two hunting buddies have been wanting me to use a web for years because they claim it to be the Cadillac of comfort as far as saddles go. Seems like some adjustments are needed to fit your style.
What parts of the web are making noise?

The web is never in uncomfortable but it can be noisy compared to a kestrel and is harder to shoot from. If your web was too small it could be uncomfortable
The kestrel is easy to shoot from and quieter
I have both the kestrel and a web.

When fitted properly and adjusted correctly any saddle will be as comfortable as any other hunting method and maybe more comfortable for some people.
The Kestrel is definitely quieter and easier to shoot from. I have no problem shooting from a platform or ameristeps but I use a crossbow or shotgun. I use a crossbow because I have to due to shoulder issues. . I would use a trad bow because it is lighter and looks more challenging and fun. I cannot comment on shooting a trad on ameristeps or a platform.

Most regard the guido as the king of comfort, although I've never tried it. I'm not sure any method of stationary hunting in a tree for 12 hours is going to be what I would deem comfortable, but different folks have different pain thresholds for dealing with it.

The maneuvering around the tree and shooting aspect, the kestrel style is probably a little easier, but still requires some practice and to a degree some athleticism and definitely careful movement to avoid spooking deer. I think that is where small treestand platforms shine over a ring of steps.

To me the kestrel is more comfortable than most hang on stands. I can’t say I have sat in a web for long but you are the first complaint I have heard on comfort. I personally hurt If I stay in one place too long and when I make all day sits I will usually move a couple hundred yards at least once maybe twice between daylight and dark.

I'm surprised you found the web uncomfortable. A kestrel can be very comfortable and very quiet. You just need to put your time in to develop a system that you are comfortable with. Any saddle is not going to be comfortable or dead quiet if you don't put the time in to refining a system.

I've used both and the differences are huge. I was sent a Guido's many years ago and while it was comfortable I found it to be just as cumbersome to carry as a conventional stand, if not worse. It also had other mobility issues while hunting that a harness doesn't. The Mantis or Kestrel harnesses are much more versatile, lightweight, non-cumbersome and mobile than any other type of hunting system.

Short answer, yes you would find a Mantis or Kestrel harness to be more comfortable and offer a lot of other perks.

Thank you to all that have shared. I purchased a Kestrel and should have it this week

I hunted all of last season out of a Web. I have also hunted out of a rock harness and fleece. There is no way to get more comfortable in a tree than the Web. I literally laid back flat and took a nap on an all day sit. You can’t do that in any other. There’s no way to compare sitting on a padded board that will hold you away from the tree with a full back support to any kind of “harness”.

Now I am migrating away from the Web to the Mantis because I want more portability but I am going to be giving up comfort while sitting in the tree.

I have both and the kestrel is easier to move around the tree. The Guido's web is very comfortable for long sits and a little more difficult to move around the tree. I like them both. The Kestrel is lighter so I guess it is my go too saddle but they both have their place.

Can't say a word about the kestrel. The sitdrag, 30 min and I can't stand it anymore. The original gw, I don't want to come out of the tree cause of its comfort and I have no issues (after a summer and a season of practice and adjusting) with shooting standing, sitting, or the left side of tree (I'm a righty). The buckles on the shoulders are a bit noisy but I take the shoulder straps off and hang behind the back rest after I get situated and ready to hunt (no more noise).
Hope this helps.
