LW Alpha

Hunted this morning on the Trap door stand.
For its size it don't get any better. Set up was easy after learning the correct pitch before camming.
The whoopie is a beast, running on my modified soft shackle. I only use two metal carabiners.
1/8" amsteel brunel on the leg.
Don't even touch the leg once adjusted at cordage, just cam platform.20191208_160312.jpg20191208_160140.jpg

My day off today. A you won't see Jack wind turned into an I should of stayed in bed wind.
The stad is rock solid. The whoopie sling is a big improvement from a neck tie strap.
The adjustment cord is 1/8 amsteel.
I am well pleased. Easy set up.
Very small learning curve for the uninitiated.20191208_160312.jpg20191208_160140.jpg

Haven’t got much done on my conversion. My little one wasn’t very cooperative in the shop today lol.. this bolt is just for mock up purposes I’ll have grade 8 hardware when done.

Trying to figure out if I want to make this adjustable or not. And if I do how I want to go about it.

Comparing the area id have to tap and drill on the stand to the area on a predator the lonewolf bottom is not as wide. I will prolly only be able to use a 1/4 bolt.

I also thought about maybe running the adjuster through the post and have it contact the cross piece on stand.. does anyone else have any better ideas?

Good luck with your project, I really like mine.
I just can't tell you how solid as in does not budge, mine is.
I just finished the seat mini today and it is more portable and gives you a place to put your feet. I will hunt with it this weekend but..
It feels like if I wanted to break it, it wouldn't take much. It's just not as beefy and so has flex out on the edges. This is off a LW Alpha stock.( narrow attachment point at the tube)
I don't mind the weight difference for the stability.
I can stand tippy toe on the corner edge.
The mini has proven useful to many so there is that.
On my trap door, I can come completely off the saddle for periods of time if I choose without being pressed against the tree and of course shoot the weak side. All at the cost of #6.

Just finished up on this going to go outside and try it in a tree right now. Still has grade 5 hardware for testing purposes

Just an update.
I made an amsteel whoopie for this stand last year but came to find it a bit of a pain trying to adjust it over time.

I am using a LW strap attached with a soft shackle at each end and it cinches up plenty. When the stand is cammed down it gets a good purchase. Very smooth and easy to adjust.

Anyone have a cut LW Alpha platform that didn't quite suit them?

Let's make a deal.

Just so its as long as mine pictured it this thread.. like jimmyfunks too.

I got a conversation started with you since Monday or Tuesday.
Maybe you didn't see it..

I might not have anything you need.
How much do you want for the plat form?

Bigfoot, Excellant idea. You took an old idea and adapted it to saddle hunting. This is the deal. Back in the day I had a similar chain on platform w/ a seperate strap on seat. It was a wood platform w/ aluminum braces underneath. This is a better version. Good job!

Not my idea.
I got it out of Field and Stream like 1980.
I built it with dog chain, turnbuckle and three chisle teeth out of key stock.

The fist time I tried to set it up the leg **** out so I named it the trap door stand.

On my Alpha I have amsteel adjustable cord (which honestly I never adjust anymore)so when I cam the stand the leg meets the tree just right. It is also insurance against the leg ever slipping.
It goes on the tree as fast as anything.

The folding leg design is incredibly stable. The cut Alpha is very roomy.
It weighs less than my Summit Goliath.

It is bigger than some offerings but,
thats why I prefer it.

For kicks I ponder taking one of my beast sticks and mounting the cut off portion of the Alpha and doing a scout platform that folds down.

History is fascinating, I think your adaptation is quite smart.
