LW Assault II as platform?

Without ever being in a saddle, would there be any major disadvantages to using a LW Assualt II for a platform, other than the weight compared to saddle specific platforms?

I'm going to give the Aerohunter Flex a try this year and while looking at platforms the thought of using an Assault come to mind. I guess it's worth a try and can always move to smaller platform but asking for anything I may not be thinking about.

Cables will more than likely be in the way. You could probably sell it and buy a platform or ROS no problem.

Might want to add a cam or ratchet strap on the platform to help with side pressure if you need to swing one way or the other.

I did this a several times my first year saddle hunting (2018) with my XOP and Windwalker. I didn't have much trouble easily stepping over the cables to swing around the tree to shoot. The cables definitely get in the way of the sitting position, but that's cancelled out by all that extra room to stand imo.

It was a good intro to saddle hunting, but as I became more accustomed to the smaller saddle platforms, the extra bulk to haul around killed the upside. There are still a couple occasions I'll grab a treestand namely extreme cold and rain.

I have used one and still do, it's hard not to like it. I attached a bar to left side to step out on for swing around shot and it works great, also attach a garden knee pad to bottom of seat, when flipped up it makes a great knee pad.

I’m assuming you allready have sticks. If your season is over, go climb a tree and try using the top step as a step. It might not be the most comfortabLE, but it can help you get an idea what an ROS might be like. can even set 2 sticks next to each other to simulate 2-4 steps on an ROS if you have either single/double steps. It will give you a feel for them that way, then try your LW stand as a platform option. While it’s not the same as a ROS or a smaller platform, it might help you narrow down which route you might want to pursue. I started with a sit drag on my LW Assualt, then got a mantis, but was waiting for my predator, and used the top of 2 sticks to stand on, then predator, then an predator with a flex. Now I‘m to a “wraptor” with a Squirrel step ROS. that’s just my preference. I still grab the LW for certain situation.
