I have a pretty tall step so im toying with the idea of making a 3 step leverage stick into a 2 step, it should cut weight down quite a bit also, anyone ever done this?

Quite a few on here have unfortunately I have not but plan on cutting up a spare set of hawk heliums in the off season. Not sure if im gonna stay with versa buttons or switch to a cam cleat. I think versa buttons may be lighter so that is my plan.

Back on topic though i think it should work for you. Just measure it all out and refit the brackets and steps!

The leverage are similar to the heliums so you can look at those threads to start. Measure twice cut once! You'd be better off starting too long that too short!
