7/64” for daisy chains and 1/4” for rope mods

Newbie here also looking at rope mods for hawk sticks. Is there any problem with the Amsteel being too slick for half hitches to hold?

No issue at all, and most people wrap the rope around the button before tying half hitches so that helps hold it as well and prevents it from slipping
