Mamut Smart 2.0 Vs. Other Rappelling Devices

Head to head comparison of some ropes. Best was Velocity, only jerky ones were the DuraShield and the C-IV, the CanyonTech and 10.5mm Mammut were slightly jumpy.

What about the HT

The 9 mm worked very well, there wasn’t any stalling and then a fast, short drop. Might be some ropes form a slight ridge, or bump as the device slides and then comes to a stop. Passing the bump and then hitting normal diameter causes the jerky descent?
I only tested descending, none would be trustworthy to make it function like an ascender, or rope grab to hold you in one spot.

Thanks, that's helpful. Was hoping to use at hunting height. Would it stay when backed up with autoblock?

I picked up some used hawk helium’s this off season, been climbing with 3 of them and a black diamond this season. The 4th has an OOAL on top and 2 step aider, so I’m itching to jump on the 1 stick wagon here. I have done some indoor climbing , enough to realize rappel is safer than climbing stick daggers at night if I miss an aider loop on the descent!

Problem is only rappel rope in stock right now is 8 mm res tech, but I’m already settled on hunting with friction hitch Schwabisch and tenders on an Oplux tether. really think I might just buy the Mammut, the restech rappel rope, a delta link, and dive in. I know it’s out of spec but if I just leave the swabisch above and pull the hitch as I go, all seems good. Or I can put another friction hitch below on the Linesman loop and set up an auto block. don’t have to ninja down, slow and steady is fine. Thoughts on this combo, or will it be super jerky with the res tech? Of course I’d never run an out of spec mammut without a friction hitch above or below it.

I think if I get a 2nd deer this weekend, I’m gonna pull the trigger, even though I promised myself to not screw with the climbing method mid season....

Sound Boat Works should be restocked with Canyon C-IV by Monday. At least that’s what I was told, as I have an order pending for 65 feet.

The Smart doesn’t provide much friction on 8mm cords, even with friction hitch the brake hand has to do most of the work.
