MANTIS...... WHATS UP TETHRDNATION

I only climbed once. I went to the woods and set everything up but I didn't hunt. The jury is still out on the awesome part. It is different from anything I've done before. There is definitely a learning curve to it. I was a helicopter Rescue Swimmer in the Navy. I've hung out of helicopters by a single strap at 5000 ft as well as being hoisted up and down from them and even jumping out of them. Yet, there was something awkward about hanging from the tether on the platform. I think I will get used to it. I definitely see the potential it just felt a little awkward.

Well look at it like this, the chance of the tree coming down is 0, chance of a helicopter??? Also, you don’t have to count on the pilot.

LOL, the chance of the tree coming down is not exactly 0. I read a story once on another forum of a guy who went on a guided hunt. He was hunting a tree stand the guide had hung. He was sitting up there hunting and the entire tree just slowly uprooted and fell to the ground. He was fine but had a hell of a ride.

That would be quite a ride. I wonder if you could jump up, you know, right before it hit the ground, kind of like an elevator... :)

That is my only real fear when I'm hanging! Especially in the swamp on a windy day! I've had 3 of my preset trees come down while I wasn't there. One of them blew over and the other 2 snapped halfway up.

Preset trees falling down, trees falling while people are sitting in them, you guys are just full of good news this morning. Should these posts be moved to the "Saddle Information for New Users" thread?

I’m sitting in a tree, reading this while the wind is blowing 20 Mph. Lol. My medium mantis should be in tomorrow. I’m pumped

Mines going out today. Large mantis, teather, lineman’s and Ropeman. Ordered Nov 3. Sorry don’t remember order #
If they are only on the 3rd looks like Santa won't be bringing me my Mantis for X-mass. Good news is I will have a nice new years gift!

I have had days sika deer hunting out of a stand that I have unhooked my RCH so at least I could just jump off into the water instead of being stuck to the tree! Never had a problem but have watched trees blow over out there.

I can imagine! The night I shot my sika I was tucked in a small pine and hanging between that pine and another large one that was only a couple feet away. The larger one was dead but I didn't realize how dead until I leaned on it. I'm pretty sure I could have pushed it over. Half the trees out there were dead.

You need to choose better trees . Look at a tree and say would my mother want me up in that.

Lol, maybe I need to ask that question more often. I'm smart enough to stay out of the lightening. But I hunted the morning after an ice storm about 5 years ago. I actually texted my father my gps coordinates from the tree because once I was out there I realized how stupid I was :tearsofjoy:

I have done the same except to my wife on multiple occasions for the same reason.

Look at the positive here. At least in the saddle you don't have 15-20 lbs of extra weight up high in the tree to tip it over like you would with a hang-on or climber. Just another reason why the saddle is safer. I say go ahead and post it in the "Saddle Information for New Users" category. Haha
